What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start August/September 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through approx December 2025) or into Winter/Spring 2026 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla Energy Failure Analysis team is looking for a highly motivated individual who is excited about solving electro-mechanical and thermal issues for storage and charging applications. As an intern in this position, you will have the opportunity to root-cause real issues occurring in the field and provide solutions to improve Tesla's energy products.

What You'll Do
  • This position is focused on investigating thermal-mechanical hardware failures in Megapack and Supercharger to identify root causes in Tesla's products
  • The intern is expected to tear down and diagnose faulty hardware, drawing on strong, hands-on experience in lab environments and knowledge of component and system functionality
  • The intern is also responsible for developing and executing comprehensive system-level tests in response to identified issues. This includes designing test plans, building experimental setups, validating hypotheses or proposed fixes, and collaborating on implementation strategies for real-world deployment
  • The intern should be adaptable and proactive in managing end-to-end failure analysis processes, from initial problem assessment through testing, resolution, and iterative improvements, while addressing any emerging challenges

What You'll Bring
  • Pursuing a Degree in a relevant program such asMechanical Engineering or Mechatronics with coursework or experience in Electrical Engineering

  • Proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits

  • Strong demonstrable hands-on experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, and other common equipment

  • Experience with soldering, and instrumentation is desirable

  • Willingness to learn different failure analysis techniques including 2D and 3D X-Ray, Cross Sectioning, SEM, and FLIR Thermography

  • Must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
