This position is located in San Antonio, TX on the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio campus. Work is in-person and may occasionally be required to work additional hours or weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive projects.

Purpose

The Research Engineering/ Scientist Associate I reports to Assistant Professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Science to maintain and support scientists in a research setting. The applicant will maintain a safe and organized lab environment, operate specialized equipment, prepare chemical solutions, conduct experiments, and may be involved in mouse/rabbit colony maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and organized lab environment conducive for carrying out basic science experiments

  • Conduct experiments and carry out protocols to advance the research of the laboratory

  • Ensuring that inventory and supplies are maintained, and data is stored safely and securely

  • Attend and participate in laboratory meetings

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year experience in basic biology/chemistry laboratory

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic math calculations

  • Demonstrated ability to follow written protocols and keep accurate records

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology/life sciences and more than one year of experience in a basic science laboratory

  • Experience managing a laboratory, maintaining safety and compliance, and carrying out day-to-day tasks necessary to keep a lab functional

  • Experience working with (or handling) rodents/animals

Salary Range

$40,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Closed laboratory environment

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Use of manual dexterity

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly

  • Periodically will spend time in the animal facilities to maintain colonies
