Job Summary

Supports the goals and objectives of the Tax, Payroll, and Compliance Services area in the Office of the Controller by providing functional support to the university community with respect to taxation matters for Foreign National students and employees, as well as support for payroll accounting processes. Provides customer service to students, parents, faculty, and staff, and assists with taxation issues related to student aid and employee wages that require the interpretation of tax policies and procedures.

  • Provides excellent customer service and support via telephone, email, or in-person to address and resolve issues from students, parents, faculty, staff, and academic departments with respect to taxation matters.
  • Reviews sign-on packages, and I-9 supporting documentation for compliance with immigration and tax laws and regulations. Processes immigration-related information for temporary employees, student assistants, graduate assistants, and fee-for-service contracts for Foreign Nationals in the system. Monitors salary changes and terminations for tax treaty benefit purposes.
  • Run queries and reports in PeopleSoft and tax software programs. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of data. Prepares and maintains supporting documentation for informational, filing, auditing, and operational use.
  • Assists with the analysis of student account data to determine trends in taxation. Assists in updating student account information ensuring the integrity of the data.
  • Monitors expiration of work authorizations and immigration documents for tax purposes.
  • Supports the payroll accounting function by processing bi-weekly and off-cycle payrolls in the system to identify and correct configuration errors in the general ledger (GL) distribution process. Runs payroll processes, reports, and queries to identify inconsistencies in the Payroll-GL.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Controller and Human Resources (HR), Financial Aid, and International Student Services (ISS) department within the university.
  • Serves as a backup within the Tax, Payroll, and Compliance Services department and assists with various tax compliance and payroll general ledger (GL) functions.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of office or related experience coordinating functions of an office or department.



Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Tax or Payroll experience preferred.
