Job Summary

Under supervision of a neonatologist, provides carefor newbornsin Neonatal Intensive Care Unitand Well Baby Nursery. Functions as advanced practice provider (APP)during day and night for neonatal resuscitations and care of NICU patients, with cross-coverage of well-baby nursery patients. Performs procedures with residents. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students and medical residents as part of a multidisciplinary provider team. Manages systems-based care including documentation, communication, and discharge preparation. Participates in and leads programmatic initiatives in the NICU.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide patient care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Well Baby Nursery including follow-up planning. (50%)
  • Completes required chart documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. (10%)
  • Participates in night call along with pediatric residents. (10%)
  • Responsible for delivery room resuscitations and care of patients in the NICU and Well Baby Nursery. (10%)
  • Assists residents with procedures. (5%)
  • Participates in unit-based and departmental quality and safety work Denver Health initiatives including RIEs and Committees. (5%)
  • Teaches medical students, physician assistant students and nursing students, as well as pediatric and family medicine residents in NICU and Well Baby Nursery. (10%)
  • Perform newborn resuscitation, placement of arterial and venous lines and chest tubes, intubation of term, preterm, and extremely low birth weight infants, and manage invasive ventilatory support (<1%)
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff.

Education:

  • Master's Degree (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant) Required

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience in a level III NICU required, either during graduate degree training program or following this training.

Licenses:

  • PA-Physician Assistant or NP - Nurse Practitioner - State Medical Board Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification - Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
  • Skill in performing physical exams and in formulation of assessments and treatment plans.
  • Ability to order appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Desire ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and review of current literature.
  • Knowledge and accountability for department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability.
  • Willingness to participate in strategic initiatives at unit, departmental and hospital level to improve care.
  • Systems-based practice skills including electronic medical record and e-mail competency
  • Computer skills required.

$138,100.00 - $155,800.00 / yr (Pay range listed is for 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE). See Work Type for actual FTE)
