Job Overview:

The Operations & Logistics Manager will oversee all operational aspects of the HARVEST Food Hub's 9,000 square foot facility, ensuring integration of multiple functions including food distribution, kitchen incubator operations, community meeting spaces, and healthcare services.This position manages facility compliance, security protocols, space utilization, and booking systems while maintaining operational excellence across diverse stakeholder groups.The Manager will coordinate between food entrepreneurs, community organizations, healthcare providers, and the Urban Agriculture Cooperative to maximize facility impact and efficiency. This role requires exceptional organizational skills to manage a complex, multi-use facility that serves as a cornerstone of Newark's food security and economic development initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Facilities Management, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for commercial food facilities and public assembly spaces
  • Experience with facility management software, booking systems, and operational technology platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex scheduling and space utilization across multiple user groups
  • Knowledge of security systems, access control, and emergency management protocols
  • Experience with contract negotiation and vendor management
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to develop and track operational metrics and KPIs
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to interface with diverse stakeholders including entrepreneurs, community members, and healthcare professionals
  • Experience with budget management and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and cold chain management preferred
  • Understanding of social enterprise operations and community development initiatives
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for facility events and programs

Preferred:

  • Preferred minimum 5 years of experience in facility operations, preferably in food-related or community-serving facilities
  • Preferred knowledge and experience working in the Greater Newark community
  • Bilingual capabilities, Spanish/English, strongly preferred

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage comprehensive facility operations including security systems, access control, emergency procedures, and building maintenance coordination
  • Oversee regulatory compliance across all facility operations, including health department permits, fire safety requirements, business licenses, and insurance requirements
  • Develop and implement booking systems for kitchen incubator time slots, meeting room reservations, and event space utilization
  • Coordinate with technology vendors to implement and maintain operational systems including scheduling software, inventory management, and point-of-sale systems
  • Manage vendor relationships for facility services including janitorial, security, pest control, waste management, and equipment maintenance
  • Oversee cold storage operations and temperature monitoring systems to ensure food safety compliance
  • Develop facility use agreements, rental contracts, and operational policies for all user groups
  • Coordinate logistics for food distribution operations, including delivery scheduling, loading dock management, and traffic flow
  • Implement data collection systems to track facility utilization, user demographics, and operational metrics for reporting
  • Manage facility budget including revenue tracking from space rentals, expense management, and financial reporting
  • Ensure ADA compliance and accessibility across all facility operations and programs
  • Coordinate with Culinary Manager on kitchen equipment needs, maintenance schedules, and user requirements
  • Develop emergency response protocols and business continuity plans for facility operations
  • Oversee front desk operations and coordinate with receptionist/outreach team for visitor management
