Job Summary:

The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist is responsible for outreaching and engaging clients in the community in order to assist them with identifying potential barriers to receiving continued treatment, as well as removing barriers when possible. The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist provides peer support groups. The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist operates from a strengths-based, individualized, team-driven, community-based perspective. The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist is responsible for creating a low barrier access to Penny Lane Services whenever possible. The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist will practice solution-focused problem solving. The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist provides collateral services, support, advocacy, system orientation, mentoring, and other supportive services to TAY Clients.

The Peer Support Specialist needs to be comfortable with public speaking and outreach. This position requires marketing and engagement in various settings and situations. The Peer Support Specialist needs to be comfortable sharing their own LGBTQ+ experience/story as appropriate to educate, advocate, and inspire hope.

Requirements:

  • The LGBTQ+ Peer Support Specialist will be a person who has lived experience as a LGBTQ+ TAY or a family member of a LGBTQ+ TAY.
  • Must pass a fingerprint and background check. Must have had no arrests or reports with DCFS within the past 5 years.
  • Bilingual Spanish required (verbal skillset only).
  • Valid California driver's license; current automobile insurance; have and maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the organization's insurance company; have immediate access to his or her vehicle during work hours.

Position Location: Commerce, CA

Position Status: Part-Time (20 hours per week)

Position Shift: Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday (afternoons preferably)

Salary Range: $23.10 - $33.77 per hour

Additional $1.00 per hour bilingual Spanish differential

Hybrid work schedule and service delivery via telehealth available.

Flexible schedules are available upon successful completion of introductory period.

Eligible employees may request up to 5 days of Paid Time Off to study for their licensure.
