Registered Dietitian - Per Diem - Cardiac Rehab - 137249

Under supervision of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Manager, the RDN (dietitian) collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide medical nutrition therapy to adult and geriatric patients. Assesses nutrition needs and identifies nutrient requirements with regard to age and disease-specific needs of patients. Develops, implements, and records in EHR the nutrition care plan for all assigned patients. Fosters continuity of care among all phases across the continuum of care. Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) intervention. Conducts assessments and delivers nutrition education for patients participating in UCSD Wellness Program. Conducts assessments and provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation patients, and may also participate in, or lead cooking school activities. Maintains the cleanliness of teaching kitchen and temperature logs. Participates in department's special projects, performance improvement activities, and research. Provides nutrition lectures to patients. Provides in-services to cardiac rehabilitation multidisciplinary team members, nutrition and medical staff as assigned. Collaborates with the nutrition department and mentors dietetic interns/students. Actively assesses, evaluates, and maintains professional development and competency related to assigned units.

• Dietitians must possess the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Foods and Nutrition/Dietetics and have completed an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics internship.

• Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD).

• Two (2) years experience working in a hospital outpatient setting.

• ServSafe Food handler certification.
• Experience working in an Cardiac Rehabilitation or Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation.
• Have knowledge in the principles of medical nutrition therapy with integrative and functional medicine to provide counseling, education, and guidance for personalized lifestyle nutrition therapy.
• Experience in counselling on lifestyle modifications, laboratory nutrient analysis, physical assessment, and evidence-based functional food or supplement suggestions based on specific findings or symptoms.
• Working knowledge of nutrition in the media to assist patient in understanding validity and applicability of current diet culture (i.e. intermittent fasting, ketogenic diets, low inflammatory diet, vegan diet etc).
• Understanding and experience in elimination diets, FODMAP, and food intolerances/allergies.
• Experience using EPIC EMR.

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
