Senior Project Manager/Lead - Traffic

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is searching for a Traffic, Sr. Project Manager/Lead in Frisco, Houston, Austin, or Dallas, TX. This position will continue to drive and grow our traffic engineering services.

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience and a strong background in traffic impact analysis, traffic operational analysis, traffic signal design and transportation planning for site development, roadway lighting, traffic signal timing, data analytics, and many other traffic engineering services. The candidate will work closely with our public infrastructure project teams to ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and project standards, supporting safe and effective traffic management infrastructure. The leadership role involves strategic planning, business development, team development, innovation, and collaboration to enhance our market presence and technical excellence. Duties and Responsibilities

    Partner with leadership to develop and enact a comprehensive strategic plan, focusing on short and long-term growth.
  • Lead service-specific proposal efforts, providing technical expertise and driving innovation in our project approaches.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, leveraging this insight to enhance our service offerings and project delivery methods.
  • Lead and assist in preparing the detailed construction drawings for traffic control devices, including traffic signals, illumination, ITS, signs, pavement markings, and similar items using AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or Bentley Open Roads. Job may also review plans developed by others and markup.
  • Work with a team in the preparation of traffic engineering studies, including technical analyses and evaluations for projects of various size and complexity.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports, memoranda, and other written communication including all supporting analyses and documents (exhibits, etc.).
  • Prepare or assist in preparing varous PS&E related to traffic engineering.
  • Produce high quality work and implement and maintain QA/QC procedures.
  • Oversee and complete the technical aspects of various traffic engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, support services, and subconsultants.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utility providers or other outside agencies.
  • Coordinate with Clients depending on project role.
  • Identify and interpret applicable codes, standards, or other design requirements.
  • Review plans, technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Utilize specialized traffic engineering software to assist with analyses (e.g., Synchro, Vistro, Vissim, Trip Generation web app, etc.).
  • Research and analyze traffic safety data including crash records.
  • Perform field observations related to traffic operations and safety for site development and design of traffic control devices.
  • Effectively participate in public hearings, neighborhood meetings, and Client meetings.
  • Represent clients and firm in meetings with governmental agencies.
  • Prepare, maintain, and coordinate schedules of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Effectively plan and implement project schedules to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, and proposals for traffic engineering projects.
  • Review and approve monthly billings of projects.
  • Serve as administrative supervisor to one or more production staff.


Required Skills

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively and prudently represent and interact with the organization leaders, team members, clients, public officials, and members of the public in a public hearing or similar environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to establish and meet project deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a collaborative, problem-solving mentality and effective application of engineering judgment.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including instructing and reviewing production staff, take initiative with prudent client and agency communication, establishing and fulfilling deliverable schedules, and ensuring quality of deliverables.
  • Diligent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Civil3D, Synchro, HCS, VISSIM and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient in the use and application of national design standards (MUTCD, AASHTO, etc.).
  • Competency in the design of traffic signals and other traffic control devices.
  • Competent in the design of roadway lighting.
  • Competent in understanding, interpreting, and developing traffic signal operations, timing, and modelling.
  • Proficient in applying ADA/PROWAG criteria in public infrastructure design.
  • Able to pro-actively suggest and communicate design solutions.
  • Ability to delegate assignments and determine appropriate methods and procedures.
  • Ability to develop constructive relationships with peers, clients, and public agencies.
  • Willingness to integrate with group and company standard practices and procedures.
  • Ability to view professional perspective of others.


Required Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in design, project management, and client management, with a focus Traffic Engineering Services.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas..
