The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Senior Director, Professional Practice for our Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).

Starting base salary = $138,000- $173,000- $208,000 (commensurate with related experience). The AHA is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Position Purpose

The Senior Director, Professional Practice is responsible for the leadership, development, and operations of professional practice programs, services and activities that contribute to meeting AONL mission and vision, and include AONL and interprofessional quality and safety initiatives, performance excellence work, among other initiatives. The position serves as AONL staff liaison to assigned nursing associations and supports select AONL and AHA committees and task forces, including the workforce committee. The position is responsible for oversight of the AONL Credentialing Center (CENP and CNML certifications), technology and innovation program administration and operations, and for development of transformational change leadership strategies. This position also provides leadership for research initiatives through the AONL Foundation.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Serves as the AONL senior leader in the strategic planning and operationalization of select AONL professional practice and interprofessional programs, such as the workforce, technology and innovation programs. Manages budgets for assigned
  • Leads the execution of contractual responsibilities and program development related to workforce, technology and innovation.
  • Serves as the AONL senior leader in work related to quality, patient safety and performance improvement including initiatives such as the AHA patient safety group, age-friendly work, and cross-association committees and work groups.
  • Serves as an internal content expert for resource development and oversight, including Guiding Principles and policy statements, and publications Oversees AONL competency development and revisions, and the online competencies.
  • Develops, implements and/or evaluates best practices and outcomes resulting from the work of professional practice activities regarding quality and safety initiatives, performance excellence work, interprofessional programs, and nursing leadership research for dissemination to the AONL membership and greater health care community.
  • Represents AONL to strategic external organizations and disseminates relevant information to the AONL board and membership. Serves as a strategic leader, representing AONL on collaborative partnerships with existing and potential partners to elevate the voice of nursing leadership.
  • In collaboration with AONL senior leaders, supports the development of AONL policy statements and educational programs, and serves as faculty as assigned.
  • Defines strategic nursing leadership research priorities in conjunction with the AONL CEO, AONL Board President, AONL Foundation Board and Director of the AONL Foundation. Reviews requests for access to members for research involvement.
  • Provides leadership and management of the AONL Credentialing Center, including coordination of the Steering and Examination committees including examination development and growth. Acts as the liaison to the AHA Credentialing Center.
  • Closely collaborates with Sr. Director for Leadership Development to actively align and integrate programs and initiatives where possible. In conjunction with the chief executive officer and Sr. Director for Leadership Development, acts as a professional/clinical subject matter expert.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging nursing and healthcare trends, as well as contemporary learning and practice methodologies.

Qualifications
Education
Masters of Nursing (required)
Experience
10 - 12 years: Minimum 10 years of nursing leadership experience.
Experience developing innovative educational programs, tools and resources as well as serving as educational faculty.
Experience in oversight of a research program of study is preferred. Doctorate (DNP or PhD) strongly preferred
