Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a technical Release Manager to support enterprise-scale Agile DevSecOps operations as part of a cybersecurity-focused Scrum team. This role is a hands-on technical expert, responsible for orchestrating secure software releases end-to-end, not merely coordinating administrative change processes. The Release Manager will directly execute and automate releases across multiple environments, pushing builds through CI/CD pipelines and enforcing touchless deployment standards that minimize manual intervention. Each release must align with DoD cybersecurity controls, RMF requirements, and IL4/IL5 operational readiness. This position requires close collaboration with system engineers, developers, cybersecurity analysts, and configuration managers, with an emphasis on technical precision, strong tooling discipline, and rapid execution under tight timelines.
This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as a technical member of the cybersecurity Scrum team, owning the technical execution and orchestration of releases that integrate security, compliance, and functional updates across multiple IL environments.
- Technically execute release pipelines, including pushing builds through tools such as Jenkins and AWS CodePipeline, rather than serving solely as a coordination or approval role.
- Establish and enforce "touchless deployment" patterns, prioritizing automation over manual AWS console activity and ensuring releases adhere to predefined automated gates and check-in rules.
- Plan and manage release schedules aligned with Agile sprints and Program Increment (PI) objectives, while retaining flexibility to respond to infrastructure changes and emergent mission needs.
- Oversee change control and configuration management from a technical perspective, ensuring changes are versioned, traceable, and executable-without acting as a purely administrative CCB coordinator.
- Ensure all builds, releases, and patches undergo automated security scanning, validation, and approval prior to promotion across environments.
- Manage and technically support the Release Readiness Review (RRR) process, ensuring objective, data-driven readiness rather than checklist-based signoffs.
- Maintain release documentation and artifacts, including deployment plans, rollback procedures, change logs, and evidence needed for audit, RMF sustainment, and operational continuity.
- Actively support CI/CD pipeline design, refinement, and troubleshooting, working alongside engineers to remove bottlenecks and improve release velocity while maintaining control.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to verify RMF compliance, DISA STIG adherence, vulnerability remediation, and ATO sustainment prior to release.
- Use Jira as a primary release management tool, maintaining fixed versions, linking work items to releases, and ensuring traceability between code, requirements, and deployments.
- Track and analyze release metrics (e.g., defect density, test completion, deployment success) to drive continuous improvement and risk reduction, not just reporting.
- Facilitate release retrospectives, identify systemic issues, and implement improvements directly into pipelines and processes.
- Coordinate environment baselines, artifact promotion, and deployment windows across development, test, and production tiers, ensuring technical consistency across environments.
- Support incident response and post-release analysis, contributing to root-cause investigations and rapid remediation when release-related issues arise.
- Stay current on emerging DevSecOps automation, pipeline governance, and release tooling to continually improve deployment reliability and speed.
Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing and technically executing software releases, deployments, or configuration management activities within DoD or federal IT environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting DevSecOps, Agile, and Continuous Delivery pipelines with direct tool interaction.
- Experience supporting RMF-driven environments and ATO sustainment, not just greenfield development.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in immature or rapidly evolving infrastructures, delivering results without extensive ramp-up time.
Technical Knowledge
- Proficiency with release and deployment automation tools, including Jenkins, GitLab, AWS CodePipeline, with direct execution experience.
- Experience managing releases across IL4/IL5 or other secure cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of configuration management, version control, artifact traceability, and promotion strategies.
- Working knowledge of DISA STIGs, RMF controls, Zero Trust architectures, and how these impact release readiness.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and containerized deployments.
- Advanced Jira proficiency, including managing fixed versions, release tracking, and sprint-to-release traceability.
Certifications (Preferred)
- CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570-compliant certification.
* AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional or AWS Solutions Architect. * ITIL Foundation or SAFe Agile certification.
Skills
- Strong technical judgment and organizational skills for managing complex, parallel releases under time pressure.
- Ability to execute independently with minimal onboarding, delivering immediate value in fast-moving environments.
- Attention to detail with a strong commitment to automation, compliance, and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in time-sensitive, mission-impacting release cycles.
- Collaborative mindset with the credibility to work effectively with engineers, cybersecurity staff, and operations teams.
