What you'll do:

As an Azure Principal Engineer I, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Azure Cloud environment. You will be responsible for providing support, implementation, and design services for Azure and banking applications. Your role will deliver design and implementation of new project scope as well as resolving and completing assigned cases and change requests. Your role is an escalation point for support issues. You will apply new solutions through research and collaboration within the team and with other IT teams. In this role, you will work closely with various teams, including data analysts, data engineers, enterprise architects, and business stakeholders. You will engage with project and business sponsors to refine requirements and objectives of targeted solutions. You will facilitate dialogue and decisions, ensuring effective collaboration with teams both within and outside your domain. By demonstrating technical competence, initiative, creativity, learning, sharing, and teamwork, you will contribute to the team's capabilities while mentoring junior engineers to develop their technical and collaborative skills. Your collaborative efforts will be essential in designing, building, and implementing critical components of the enterprise platform.

As an Azure Principal Engineer I, you'll provide SME expertise in your respective domain as well as adjacent domains to ensure solutions are safe, secure, compliant, and reliable. You'll identify development and support needs as well as take on large and complex design responsibilities supporting project tasks. You'll also engage with project and business sponsors refining requirements and objectives of targeted solutions. As an Azure Principal Engineer I, you also facilitate dialogue and activities, and work to ensure team collaboration including teams outside of your domain. You'll develop effective presentations and narratives for IT audiences. In this role, you'll also develop the technical skills of one or more junior engineers.
  • Build the solution design of efforts that can be handed off to lower-level engineers for execution assuring reuse of platforms where possible.
  • Review technical plans developed by lower-level engineers and analysts to assure quality designs prevail which can support the volumetrics of our business partners objectives.
  • Build comprehensive measurement dashboards that give performance insight into key applications of the bank which can feed operational results of our business partners.
  • Work independently or sometimes with architecture team counterparts to lay out the final documentation required for proper ongoing reference of the given solution, including physical and logical layouts with cross reference to use case models while enforcing standards, as well as assisting in the modification or buildout of procedures that support areas of operations across IT.
  • Lead small group of engineers to develop cloud engineering roadmap, define workstreams, and ownership and delegation of implementation tasks.
  • Plan, design, deploy and mature cloud infrastructure, services, and processes that meet business needs
  • Automate routine tasks (Security Groups, deployments, etc.) working with the Infrastructure as Code team
  • Document system designs, present to technical review boards and CABs for changes and standards
  • Document and publish engineering standards
  • Assist in the design and standardization of modern application stacks within the Azure platform.
  • Collaborate with IT Governance assessments and audits, providing evidence to support control framework.
  • Participation in engineering support 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Provide escalation-level support to our incident, problem, and change management processes.

What you'll need:

  • 8+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Administrator Associate.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced to expert experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously with an established expertise in one or more key domains of the bank (Deposits, Loans, Operations or Reporting) with the ability to walk-through top-level process design. Capable of working with regulatory partners like the CFPB, OCC and FRB through audits and collaboration efforts as situations arise.
  • Advanced to expert familiarity with the capability model across IT and the applications and infrastructures available for engagement in solutioning across the bank to develop results that leverage existing capabilities in addition to implementing new solutions when required. Experience in the design, enhancement, and compliance to all governance frameworks across the IT organization to ensure proper compliance to published procedures and standards.
  • Advanced to expert Hands-on experience deploying virtual infrastructure within Microsoft Azure public cloud.
  • Advanced to expert experience with enterprise DNS, DHCP, and IP address management.
  • Advanced to expert experience in PowerShell. Perl or Python a plus.
  • Advanced to expert experience planning and implementing large and complex migration projects.
  • Advanced to expert experience with DR and HA design supporting BCP technology solutions.
  • Advanced to expert experience operating within an ITIL ITSM organization with a background using ServiceNow.
  • Advanced to expert experience with diagramming software such as Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Advanced to expert experience using monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Netbrain, DataDog, LiveAction, ThousandEyes, AppDynamics, Elasticsearch, Logstash, or Kibana.
  • Microsoft Certifications preferred such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Administrator Associate.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
