About ECS Water Solutions

ECS's Water Solutions group provides design, operation, and management of groundwater, surface water, and construction dewatering treatment systems. The team delivers turnkey solutions - from permitting and design through startup, optimization, and long-term system maintenance - helping clients comply with environmental regulations and achieve cost-effective, sustainable outcomes. You'll join a collaborative team of environmental engineers and scientists supporting projects across ECS's national footprint. Our systems treat a variety of contaminants of concern and support both temporary construction-phase and permanent remediation applications.

Position Summary

The Remediation Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of groundwater and surface water remediation systems within the Water Solutions group. This position involves hands-on field work, engineering design, project management, and client interface. You'll manage projects from concept through construction and commissioning, helping to deliver high-quality, practical, and regulatory-compliant treatment system designs.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Technical Execution

  • Manage water treatment and remediation projects from proposal through delivery, including scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Design and oversee both temporary dewatering treatment systems and permanent remedial systems for groundwater and surface water applications.
  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications for treatment systems such as filtration, carbon and other media adsorption, air stripping, and chemical treatment.
  • Conduct and interpret hydrogeologic and contaminant fate and transport evaluations to guide system design.
  • Support pilot tests, treatability studies, and system startups.
  • Provide field oversight during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
  • Review project deliverables for QA/QC compliance and consistency with ECS standards.
  • Ensure project safety and adherence to company health and safety policies.
  • Prepare project invoices and assist with collections as required.

Client Relationships & Business Development

  • Maintain and expand relationships with new and existing clients across private and public sectors.
  • Prepare technical proposals, scopes of work, and budgets in collaboration with the Water Solutions Group Manager and senior staff.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support business development activities through client presentations and conference participation.

Staff Development

  • Mentor and train junior engineers and field staff in system design, installation, and monitoring procedures.
  • Promote ECS technical standards and safety-first culture.
  • Contribute to internal training and development programs within the Water Solutions team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required, or ability to obtain reciprocity
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in groundwater/surface water remediation and water treatment system design.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and managing water treatment or remediation systems (e.g., pump-and-treat, mechanical and media filtration, adsorption media, or chemical treatment).
  • Strong understanding of hydrogeologic and chemical processes governing contaminant behavior.
  • Proficiency with developing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) within AutoCAD and other Autodesk Programs.
  • Experience with hydraulic and contaminant transport modeling tools (e.g., MODFLOW, MT3D, GIS or similar).
  • Ability to oversee and support field operations, including startup, sampling, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NPDES or temporary discharge permitting.
  • Familiarity with advanced in-situ or ex-situ remediation technologies (e.g., bioremediation, chemical oxidation/reduction, PFAS treatment).
  • Experience with vapor mitigation or air handling systems.
  • Demonstrated client-facing and business development experience.
