Job Summary

The Medical Assistant/Customer Service Rep Float is responsible for assisting physician(s) in providing quality patient care and may have routine interaction and working relationships with patients, family members, physicians, third party payers and other clinic and hospital team members. This position also performs clinical and clerical tasks, such as registering patients, relieving staff members of clerical work and minor administrative and business details by scheduling appointments, giving information to callers, reading and routing incoming mail, filing correspondence and other assigned clerical duties. This position will require the employee to float to all offices within the network practices. The position will provide coverage for individuals who are off for various reasons (eg. sick, FMLA, and vacation) and will require driving between practice locations.

Responsibilities And Scope


  • Works collaboratively and within the limits of job title, knowledge and medical practice policies. Functions as a resource for other health professionals and patients within the practice. Functions as triage CMA as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Assist the provider(s) with direct patient care including preparing patients for exams and competently performing procedures as directed by provider. Completes medical visit documentation and forms in a timely manner (i.e. Consents, medication assistance forms, DMV forms, medical necessity, etc.). Competently uses email, scheduling, and EMR systems. Notifies patients of test and lab results, schedules follow-up appointments and assists patients with referral appointments as needed.

  • Collects and accurately prepares specimens and competently performs waived lab tests. Obtains and tracks lab and referral results to ensure all results are reported to the provider in a timely manner. Performs quality control checks for lab equipment and refrigerated equipment according to office policy. Inventories lab and clinical supplies, orders and restocks forms and consumable supplies as needed.

  • Verifies receipt of purchases. Checks for expired items and discards according to policies and procedures. Assists in maintaining and organizing medications and samples per office policy. Follows standard work registration processes. Provides general clerical support functions to ensure efficient utilization of time. Performs check in and check out procedures for all patient care including answering phones.

  • Performs housekeeping duties of assigned area by routine and periodic cleaning and maintains order and cleanliness throughout the clinic. Adheres to medical waste disposal policies and procedures. Adheres to infection control, disinfection, and sterilization policies and procedures. Provides administration with monthly infection control, EOC, and other audits as requested.


Qualifications

Required


  • Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical areas actively throughout work.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification.


Preferred


  • Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
