ABOUT THE ROLE:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses ultrasound technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the continuum.

YOUR ROLE WOULD ENCOMPASS:



  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, small parts, interventional and Doppler.
  • Uses sterile technique as required for interventional procedures.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and transducer selection.
  • Competently operates ultrasound equipment and support system including hospital information system (HIS), radiology information system (RIS), scheduling system, picture archiving and communication system (PACS), and offsite radiologist services
  • Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, etc. to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.


  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate vendors as needed.
  • Keeps work area properly supplied.
  • Participates in the training of diagnostic medical sonography students and provides general support of their clinical education; completes required documentation as indicated and adheres to the expectations of the Bryan College of Health Sciences General Sonography program.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.


YOUR EXPERIENCE INCLUDES (PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN):

Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalency required. A minimum of one (1) year experience preferred. Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification or candidacy for ARDMS registry within six (6) months of registry eligibility required.
