Position Summary

This is an ESC represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining.

This is a journey-level engineer job that requires mastery of the Associate level engineer skills and duties and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects and tasks. Uses independent judgment in applying engineering principles, working with limited supervision. Works with operations and maintenance personnel, engineers, project managers, and other business partners in assessing project and plant needs. Responsibilities beyond those of associate engineer include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop technical studies and reports, communicate with regulatory and other outside agencies, and provide guidance to lower engineers, contractors and outside vendors.

May be required to fill a rotation in the DCPP Emergency Response Organization (ERO) as necessary.

To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.Although we estimatethesuccessful candidate hiredinto this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill bemade on a case-by-casebasis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Responsibilities

May perform functions of Associate level Engineer and in addition: (This list is not all inclusive and all items may not be applicable to all sections and disciplines.)

  • Provides technical expertise and performs engineering and technical analyses, studies, and develops conceptual solutions.
  • Develops and reviews design documents and design changes to ensure plant design basis is maintained.
  • Presents findings and conclusions to internal organizations, contractors, outside vendors, regulators and management.
  • Prepares written technical documents such as design criteria, specifications, calculations and reports.
  • Develops, evaluates, and recommends alternative solutions.
  • Supports and conducts training activities.
  • Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations.
  • Performs cause evaluations.
  • May perform independent technical review of procedures.
  • Participates in self-assessments, benchmarking, audits and inspections.
  • Approves reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings for projects.
  • Represents PG&E to government bodies as required for assigned projects and programs.
  • Identifies, develops and presents long-term equipment plans, including budget, priority, solution and need.
  • Performs independent reviews of technical documents, calculations and procedures.
  • May lead limited scope or single discipline projects within engineering.
  • May act as contract manager for limited scope engineering projects.
  • Takes ownership of problems and their solutions.
  • Evaluates industry guidelines and information with respect to programs and procedures.
  • Initiates and routes contract related documents for approval.
  • May act as test lead for infrequently performed or new test procedures.
  • May participate on a troubleshooting team.
  • Has sufficient understanding of design basis, plant operations, components, and systems as required to perform the above
  • Performs plant walkdowns, inspections, and evaluations for general condition assessment of steel and concrete components and structures, including validation of the seismic bracing of civil temporary structures, e.g. scaffolding and shoring.
  • Develops concrete and steel structure repairs, including field engineering support.
  • Performs temporary load and rigging evaluations.
  • Supports refueling outages 1-2 times per year for approximately 30 days on a 6x12 hour shift schedule.
  • Evaluates fall protection systems (e.g. permanent fall protection anchors).
  • Designs equipment anchorage, from smaller commodities (eg. conduit, tubing) to larger equipment (eg. pumps, motors, compressors).
  • Performs owner acceptance reviews and approval of vendor design document submittals.
  • Evaluates degraded conditions and recommends corrective actions.
  • May lead limited scope or single discipline design modifications or serve a project engineer role on outsourced design modifications, including field support.
  • Evaluates industry guidelines and information with respect to programs and procedures.
  • Prepares contract scope of work contract documents
  • Ability for limited travel to attend industry conferences or oversight of vendors at offsite locations.
  • Effectively represents PG&E at industry association, trade committee, and inter-utility work groups.
  • Represents PG&E to government bodies as required for assigned projects and programs.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1-1 993
  • Mastery of the Associate level Engineer job duties or equivalent and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Journey Level Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of four years of cumulative experience in engineering and related science or three years as an Associate Engineer (NUC). Has obtained applicable qualifications for position as specified in the Engineering Support Personnel training program.

  • Current and active California Civil or Structural PEIEIT license, or the ability to obtain within 2 years
  • Demonstrates a special focus on nuclear, industrial and radiological safety.
  • Experience in structure/seismic analysis and design.
  • Experience working in commercial nuclear power plant with design and licensing basis.
  • Applies basic analytical principles and engineering fundamentals to technical problems.
  • Prioritizes, plans, and recommends solutions.
  • Supports plant staff by developing, compiling, and providing technical data.
  • Effectively communicates, both written and orally.
  • Approaches and plans work in an organized manner applying established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates conservative judgment when making technical decisions and recommendations.
  • Consistently shows initiative. Takes ownership of problems and solutions through completion.
  • Knowledgeable in nuclear processes, codes (eg. AISC, ASCE, and ACI 349), regulations, and best practices related to the discipline.
