Job Summary: The Shop Welder Tech , performs complicated welding repairs, fabrication, and line boring on heavy equipment, and components with minimal supervision utilizing Holt, Caterpillar and AWS Welding Procedures, Standards and Codes. Demonstrating ability to fabricate solely from blueprints and perform the removal and installation of most components on heavy equipment, including undercarriage. The hours for the position are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are located at 3007 Maverick Drive, Kilgore, Texas 75662.

Essential Functions:



  • Models, promotes, and reinforces the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our
    Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Executes complicated repairs, fabrication and welding on heavy equipment and components in a shop environment.
  • Conducts complicated carbon arc gouging, oxy/acetylene torch beveling and welding with different welding processes.
  • Completes most line boring jobs with minimal supervision.
  • Accurately orders parts utilizing Holt computer systems by looking up special instructions, specifications and processes utilizing SIS and other resources.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in good, clean working order.
  • Proficiently operates hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in fabrication and welding.
  • Accurately prepares technical inspection and service reports, documents, and any other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Works outside of regularly scheduled hours as required by workload.
  • Performs removal and installation of components on heavy equipment, including undercarriage.
  • Recommends innovative ways of approaching projects and equipment needed to perform tasks.
  • Assists with developing procedures and techniques for performing complicated fabrications or repairs.
  • Consults with supervisor on purchases.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with outside organizations, vendors, internal and external customers.
  • Aids in coaching and mentoring less experienced welders.
  • Works safely at all times while consistently adhering to company policies, procedures and standards internally as well as externally when representing our organization.
  • Performs other duties assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to complete most complicated welding repairs on steel and steel alloys utilizing FCAW & SMAW process (all position) and perform advanced torch work, cutting and gouging.
  • Proficient knowledge of equipment and dimensional tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Proficient knowledge of specification and drawing interpretations.
  • Proficient knowledge with current computer software, related hardware, and machine interface systems.
  • Adequate work habits, accuracy and exceptional attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Developed technical skills as a qualified welder/fabricator with a demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned welding tasks.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Developing influencing skills and problem-solving skills with a developing mechanical aptitude.
  • Adaptable to changing schedules and exhibits time management skills.
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting and standard operating procedures when performing welding fabrication and repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a strong work ethic, being dependable, reliable, and honest with demonstrated integrity.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work.
  • Required to be a self-starter.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information with the ability to follow directions and procedures.
  • Able to perform complicated line-boring jobs.
  • Able to cut-out/weld-out broken bolts.
  • Ability to work with, hand grinder/sander, air tools, forklifts, and material handling equipment.


Additional Requirements:



  • Welding certifications to complete during this level is SMAW (stick) 1" T-1 Material (3G and 4G) welding processes
  • Failure Analysis Training
  • Ongoing Safety Training
  • Principles of Persuasion
  • Selling Skills
  • MSHA Certification


Education and Experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required; with additional specialized/technical
    training or some college courses (Welding Technology) preferred
  • Three years' experience required


Preferred license:



  • Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) 3G and 4G
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 3G and 4G
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 3G and 4G
  • First Aid/CPR; Confined Space Entry; Methane/O2 Deficiency


Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Travel:



  • Up to 5% travel may be required for training or work related.


Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to function and work around welding machines, overhead cranes, cutting torches and gauges, fit up and layout tools.
  • Ability to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials weighing up to 50 lb., anything more requires a team lift, or a mechanical lift.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself using hands/feet while maintaining at least three points of contact to climb up/down ladders and/or equipment.
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
  • Significant amount of time standing and walking; at times kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching


Work Environment:



  • Requires the use of common protective or safety equipment.
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and moisture/humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
  • Occasionally performs work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
  • Frequently interact with internal/external customers and occasionally interacts with vendors and outside organizations.
