About the Job

The Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics has 25 faculty members with strength in breeding, genetics/genomics, biotechnology, agronomy/agroecology, weed science and crop physiology. Faculty research programs are focused on improvement of traditional and emerging crops and developing agronomic practices for crops that are of key importance to agriculture in the upper Midwest and beyond.

Job Responsibilities

  • 50% Communication
    Serve as the primary point of contact for the Community Plant Breeding Team, managing correspondence with the public, Hennepin County Master Gardeners, and other community partners. Coordinate and maintain positive relationships with volunteers who contribute to field maintenance, weeding, and harvesting during the growing season. Respond to external inquiries, coordinate interviews, and manage requests for field visits and other outreach activities.
  • 50% Coordination
    Plan, organize, and oversee the work of student members of the Community Plant Breeding Team. Provide clear direction, task training, and ongoing support to ensure timely and accurate completion of project goals. Develop and maintain work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure all team activities align with the research and outreach objectives of the program.

Qualifications

Required

  • BA/BS degree or a combination of education and related experience to equal four years, ability to prioritize tasks, communicate clearly, and coordinate the work of a team of volunteers

Preferred

  • Knowledge of plant breeding and genetics
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $28.65 - $30.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
