Position Highlights

The School of Plant Sciences is looking for a Research Technician IV to support the operations of the Arizona Genomic Institute's Service Center and Research Programs. The successful candidate will join a group of scientists that generate genomic datasets (DNA and RNA extractions, long-read DNA sequencing, Hi-C, bio informatics).

The position will require the execution of various laboratory experiments, coordinating with other team members and maintaining quality of project deliverables. The position requires extensive experience in molecular biology techniques, especially on DNA and RNA sequencing. Previous knowledge on long-read sequencing platforms is also valuable. A high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, dynamism, and professionalism are necessary.,

Duties & Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations:

  • Contributes with the execution of various laboratory operations like nucleic acid extractions, sequencing library prep, operating and maintenance of QC instruments and sequencers.
  • Collaborates in the development of new methods and establish new technologies.
  • Troubleshooting issue encountered in the lab.

Project Logistics:

  • Coordination on sample onboarding, tracking progress, and deliveries.
  • Communicating with colleagues of different backgrounds: molecular biologists, data analysts, accountants.

Progress Update:

  • Participates in and run meetings with coworkers and external collaborators to ensure project completion and effective communication.
  • Produces and delivers project reports.
  • Taking and sharing notes and updates.

Service Center Promotion and Continuing Education:

  • Attend conferences to promote the service center, attend workshops, instrument and technology trainings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Knowledge of using long-read DNA sequencing technologies.
  • Knowledge with Agilent iLab software.
  • Knowledge of DNA sequencing technology and concepts.
  • Ability to multitask and shift focus to multiple topics and projects, as well as receiving direction and guidance from supervisor and coworkers.
  • Highly developed communication skills: verbal and digital.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency required.
  • Seven years of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a molecular biology group.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA isolation, library construction, and instrument operation.
