Selection into the Airframe Technician Helper Apprenticeship is decided upon after completing a required 90 day probationary period, where the candidate meets company requirements & performance expectations as outlined by Duncan Aviation's Airframe Department.



The Airframe Technician Helper Apprentice, under immediate supervision of a certificated technician, learns and becomes competent in the testing, adjusting and repairing, and other general tasks related to the maintenance and repair of airframe systems and components on a variety of airframes in a safe and clean work environment according to manufacturer's specifications, Duncan Aviation approved procedures, and customer specifications.

Essential Job Functions



  1. As outlined by Duncan Aviation's Technical Education Center and the FAA, you will be responsible for completing a 2-year program under the direction of Duncan Aviation's Technical Training Coordinators, providing classroom/textbook curriculum training as well as hands-on aviation maintenance training to exhibit proficiency in required tasks

  2. Study Aviation Maintenance rules, regulations & educational material to exhibit general knowledge and understanding as outlined by Duncan Aviation & FAA regulations (A&P Requirements Per FAA)

  3. Attend regularly scheduled classroom training at Duncan Aviation's Technical Education Center on relevant aviation maintenance curriculum as outlined by Duncan Aviation & FAA regulations

  4. Under Direct Supervision & Training from certified technicians, complete basic hands-on maintenance tasks associated with aviation maintenance outlined by Duncan Aviation & FAA regulations, including assisting in high quality inspections, servicing, repair, and maintenance of airframe systems and components on a variety of airframes using proper hand tools in a timely, clean, safe and professional manner. Order general parts as needed.

  5. Upon Successful Completion, candidates would receive Airframe License and be eligible for career opportunities within Duncan Aviation's Airframe Department including Airframe Technician, Airframe Structures Technician or other Airframe related positions

  6. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.


Job Specific Requirements



  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; To receive Airframe License, candidate will need to complete FAA testing at the completion of the program
  • Attendance: Regularly schedule attendance required, Successful completion of program will also require independent study time outside of normal work hours, to be completed by employee.
  • Physical: Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products, materials and fumes associated with component maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in production environment including changing temperatures and in noisy environments


Education and Experience



  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in High School/STEM Aviation Courses preferred
  • General Mechanical Aptitude Required (knowledge of tools, uses & safety)
