Position Summary: JMT is seeking a current full-time Mechanical Engineering student entering their Junior or Senior year within an ABET Accredited program. The intern will be a member of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Newark, DE office. Our Facilities Engineering team provides design, commissioning, and construction phase support for building systems projects, including heating and air-conditioning, ventilation systems, building controls, domestic water and sanitary systems, building and site lighting, building power, telecommunications, and fire alarm and security systems.

The intern will be asked to work closely with engineering employees to carry out an array of assigned tasks. The tasks will range from data entry, modifying and developing engineered system drawings, engineering calculations, and field support of Design and Commissioning activities. Candidate will work closely with mechanical engineers and other facilities team members. Other duties include, but are not limited to, assembling data and assisting with problem-solving requiring basic theories and engineering fundamentals; utilizing computer programs to solve engineering problems; assisting with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects, technical evaluation of equipment and material, and maintaining accurate and current project documentation. Sponsorship not available for this position.

This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.

Essential functions and responsibilities



  • Make edits and updates to engineering drawings and projects
  • Coordinate small-scale projects
  • Assemble data and research
  • Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
  • Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects
  • Develop and prepare specifications
  • Evaluate equipment and material
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation
  • Complete engineering calculations

Required Experience

  • Full time student in mechanical or architectural engineering
  • Equivalency of a Junior or Senior status from an ABET Accredited Mechanical Engineering degree program
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced cooperative team environment spanning across multiple offices
  • Desire to participate and excel with a broad range of project types, roles, customers and tasks


Preferred Experience



  • Coursework in related field
  • Previous internship experience


Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 30 lbs) may be required as needed.
