The Optum Bank legal team is hiring an associate general counsel. This attorney will advise Bank personnel on a variety of legal topics to support the Bank.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the review, preparation and negotiation of various contracts and documents associated with Bank business
  • Advise on the development of new lending and deposit products for the Bank
  • Participate in negotiations with customers and vendors
  • Conduct legal research
  • Interact with Bank employees and advise on legal issues
  • Draft formal and informal correspondence and memoranda
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the UnitedHealth Group legal department
  • Proactively identify and resolve legal matters impacting the Bank
  • Develop best practices for addressing emerging legal risks
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Foster key internal relationships

The successful candidate will possess solid verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and business instincts. The ability to lead projects and change is also critical. The ability to delegate work and operate in a matrixed environment will be important qualities for the successful candidate. Prior law firm and in-house experience are desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction
  • 5+ years of contract drafting or financial services experience
  • Driver's License and access to a reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with banking
  • Experience with commercial and consumer lending
  • Experience with bank partnership agreements, real estate transactions, payments, and other related requirements governing financial institutions
  • Experience with the UCC

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
