Description Summary: The Nurse Practitioner, under the supervision of the Medical Director, delivers primary health care to students and fulfills such duties as assessment, planning, teaching, and counseling. The Nurse Practitioner functions as a health team member in meeting the objectives of the school-based center within the WISH program (Wayne Initiative for School Health). The purpose of the WISH program is to render school-based care that provides affordable, accessible physical and mental health services to adolescents. WISH advocates for the health rights of all children and addresses a broad range of needs. The program goal is to help Wayne County students succeed in school by promoting healthy lifestyles and by providing comprehensive health care services to meet the needs of all students. Responsibilities: 1.Provides quality patient care using the nursing process and critical thinking skills. 2.Obtains comprehensive general health histories. 3.Screens for psycho/social/cultural/genetic/ lifestyle factors that may impact health care and health outcomes. 4.Screens for health risks and health promotion needs. 5.Performs comprehensive and/or problem-focused physical examinations. 6.Obtains problem-focused health history. 7.Identifies deviations from normal findings in history and physical examination. 8.Orders or performs screening and diagnostic tests based on findings from history and physical examinations. 9.Interprets screening and diagnostic tests. 10.Develops and analyzes differential diagnoses on the basis of clinical and laboratory data. 11.Develops a plan of care based on assessment findings and diagnoses. 12.Provides health promotion/ disease prevention education/counseling, and anticipatory guidance. 13.Prescribes pharmacologic therapies. 14.Initiates non-pharmacologic therapies. 15.Documents all patient interactions and other clinical activities accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record (EHR). 16.Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in meeting identified health needs. 17.Participates in the development, execution and periodic review of the written policies governing the services the clinic furnishes. 18.Participates in performance improvement initiatives. 19.Works under the supervision of the Medical Director and consults as needed. 20.Meets performance measures for the clinics for enrollments, physicals and immunizations as set by the Program Director. 21.Develops effective working relationships with school administrators and staff. 22.Complies with regulatory standards, Hospital policies & procedures, as applicable. 23.Is flexible to work a varied work schedule to cover the needs of the clinics. 24.Promotes effective communications between patients, staff, physicians, and visitors. 25.Ensures documentation is accurate and complete. 26.Ensures adequate supplies and is knowledgeable in operation of equipment. 27.Keeps current in trends and developments in adolescent medicine. 28.Keeps all credentials and/or certifications current. 29.Provides high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. Licensure/Certification Current unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in North Carolina and approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Medical Board and the North Carolina Board of Nursing. BLS certification required.
Experience Minimum 2-3 years' experience working with adolescents in a pediatric unit, office, or health clinic preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *Knowledge of adolescent development processes. Knowledge of adolescent nursing, adolescent and human development, common childhood infectious diseases and chronic and acute health conditions. *Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to build rapport with adolescents. *Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. *Proficient with MS Office and EHR, with the ability to learn new software rapidly.
Valid NC Driver's License: No If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
