Your Opportunity

The Supply Chain team is looking for motivated professionals to facilitate the distribution of our great products to customers and consumers. These personnel can analyze production metrics against market needs in Supply & Demand Planning, focus on product transportation through Logistics, or ensure the shelves of your local grocery store are stocked by Direct Store Delivery.

The Load Control Manager performs critical functions that interact directly with Smithfield customers. The principal focus is providing consistent, efficient, and timely service levels and to develop Smithfield's service as a point of differentiation and value for the customer and outranking the competition.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes policies on carrier utilization to ensure that shipments are handled quickly, safely, and within budget.

  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

  • Tracks and measures carrier performance through cost analysis, equipment availability, and service levels and makes recommendations as required to improve the effectiveness of transportation programs.

  • Introduces, develops, and implements new service offerings along with developing and initiating plans for movement of raw materials.

  • Develops and manages department's overall logistics plan as well as policies and procedures.

  • Directs the distribution of work through staff personnel.

  • Assists with the development of cost effective transportation programs that meet customer requirements.

  • Coach, train, and develop reporting staff to become customer service oriented.

  • Focus on transportation cost and on time performance to customers.

  • Performance to key metrics as defined by upper management.

  • Works closely with Distribution Centers and other Transportation Functional Managers.

  • Works closely with Transportation Technical support.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years' of experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Customer Service; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Transportation Management tools.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • The ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.

  • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats.

  • High level of organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.

  • Strong negotiation skills.

  • Must be available to address any customer service related issues 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has employee supervisory responsibilities for a team of Transportation Representatives and/or Transportation Analysts.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems.
