Job Description Summary:
The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences is GW's intellectual and creative backbone-a place where research thrives, critical thinking is encouraged, collaboration is constant and real-world training goes hand-in-hand with learning. Columbian College is GW's largest and most comprehensive academic unit. It's home to 42 academic departments, three affiliated schools, 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 20 research centers and more than 500 full-time faculty-including Fulbright and Guggenheim scholars, award-winning artists, cutting-edge scientists and critically acclaimed authors.

The Senior Research Assistant will implement lab, greenhouse, and field experiments that involve monitoring tidal wetland and coastal forest plant species composition, environmental sensor and datalogger deployment and maintenance. The technician will also help with lab organization, purchasing of supplies and equipment, running major lab equipment, supervising undergraduate research assistants, and establishing lab work flow and protocols.

Duties:

  • Set up and monitoring of field plots and field experiments.
  • Plant and soil sample processing in the lab.
  • Lab organization, documentation of lab protocols, and coordination of student researchers in the lab.
  • Literature review, data analysis, and communication of research findings.


Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

  • An undergraduate degree in ecology or a related biological science
  • Experience working outdoors
  • Experience in student mentoring or supervision
  • Research experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience using environmental technology

Hiring Range $18.06 - $27.52
