YOUR ROLE:

As a Sr. DevOps Engineer, you serve as a key player in Technology solutions for our clients and within the agency. You work with the Infrastructure Automation and Tools team (IAT) in implementing tools and infrastructure that facilitates efficient software development/ process and operations. From setting up a continuous integration/delivery environment to speeding up software deployment and release process, to maintenance of the cloud infrastructure.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Accountable for communicating the DevOps best practices with other development teams and helping them in the implementation thereof.
  • Dedicate at least 50% of time automating systems and processes.
  • Work with IAT Engineers in the implementation of infrastructure, security and tools that are needed for delivery of software applications and services.
  • Work with IAT Lead in analyzing, executing, and streamlining DevOps practices.
  • Introduce new tech stacks for experimentation while maintaining a controlled delivery process.
  • Research and investigate technology solutions, demonstrate their efficiency by putting together proofs of concept and sharing these with the team.
  • Thoroughly research and troubleshoot technical issues. Derive pragmatic, effective solutions, resolve issues, and document the resolutions.
  • Implement infrastructure and security solutions on the cloud, and help service them long-term


REQUIRED SKILLS:



  • 7+ years of experience in an infrastructure, development, architecture, and operations role.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing DevOps solutions for a complex cloud native environment.
  • Hands on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy or equivalent.
  • Hands on experience deploying infrastructure with IaC such as Cloudwatch or Terraform.
  • Hands on implementation of a Cloud Native environment using AWS; familiarity with GovCloud would be a bonus.
  • Strong experience with deploying services through IaC such as AWS RDS, EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, API Gateway, Bastion Hosts, messaging (Kafka), identity and security management (IAM, Cognito, Okta etc.), Configuration and Secret Management (Secrets Manager, Config, SSM, KMS etc.).
  • Strong development experience with Python or similar shell scripting language
  • Experience with networking and CIDR management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with declarative configuration management tool(s) like Chef, Salt, Puppet, etc.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.
  • Experience with and belief in SCRUM/Agile methodology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with developers, project managers, and a QA team to enable them in the development process.
  • Able to thrive independently given direction and objectives.
  • Strong requirements gathering skills and creative problem solving.
  • Personal drive to meet deadlines and deliverables is a must.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective team leadership skills to inspire them to achieve goals through innovation, quality and excellence.

This range is specific to Chicago and multiple factors are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: skill set, experience and training, certifications; etc. This is an exempt position.
