Tax Analyst Job Summary
This position will be responsible for performing day-to-day tax compliance functions for Spire. The Tax Analyst will maintain tax systems for the tax compliance and reporting process, assist in tax projects and improvement initiatives, and perform value-added activities within the Spire Tax Team.

As part of the compliance process, the Tax Analyst will prepare and file multi-state sales & use, hotel occupancy, and food & beverage tax returns.

Job Responsibilities
* Perform tax calculation, and revenue / tax account balance reconciliation
* Prepare, file and pay multi-state sales/use, hotel occupancy, and F&B tax returns in a timely manner
* Research proper taxability of customers on an account and transaction basis
* Research and validate customer tax exemption status
* Communicate tax rates & laws to both internal and external customers through research and interpretation of state regulations
* Manage tax notices related to properties and ensure timely and accurate resolution
* Perform monthly close of tax accounts
* Ad hoc special projects and other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Education

* Accounting degree or equivalent work experience
* 3-5 years prior sales tax or relevant experience
* Experience researching taxability issues via CCH
* Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a fast paced, high demand environment
* Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
* Demonstrated customer focused behavior
* Ability to deal with difficult situations in a diplomatic and professional manner
* Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills with the ability to make recommendations based on investigation and judgment as well as ability to discern when to escalate issues
* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
* Exceptional time management skills
* A positive attitude and willingness to learn coupled with the ability to work in a team environment
