Access Services, part of the Student Success division, develops and implements services that connect users with experts, collections, technology, and spaces. The department manages the Ask Us service points at the Hill and Hunt Libraries, providing answers in person, through chat, and throughout the Libraries, whether it's finding a book or signing up for a technology consultation. Ask Us lending includes a textbook program with a copy of every required textbook and a technology lending service that includes laptops, cameras, circuit kits, virtual reality devices, and more. Access Services manages the 5.3-million-volume collection on open shelves and in the bookBot, manages print and electronic reserves, and supports the discovery and delivery of resources, borrowing books and articles from libraries all over the world for the NC State community.

Essential Job Duties
This is an internal posting for current NC State permanent and temporary employees, and candidates with RIF priority.
As an Access Services Library Technician and Shift Supervisor at NC State University Libraries, you'll play a key role in ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and innovative experience for all library users. You'll oversee information and circulation services at the Libraries' Ask Us service points-directly providing assistance to patrons with tasks ranging from finding resources to booking tech consultations. In this role, you'll coordinate projects across library locations, manage print collections, analyze trends, and streamline workflows to support a seamless library experience. You'll also recruit, train, and supervise full-time staff and a dynamic student team, while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement among staff.
Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as a communication node across shifts and library locations, including collaborating closely with staff and patrons across a wide range of backgrounds
  • Supervise Ask Us service points, including opening and closing procedures, ensuring consistent and high-quality customer service.
  • Coordinate projects across library locations, including material moves, space analysis, and process improvements.
  • Manage and maintain the print collection to ensure accessibility and usability.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise employees, and assist in staff training initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot computing, printing, and technology issues for patrons and staff, ensuring a reliable and secure library environment.

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Demonstrated success providing high-quality customer or public service in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the current information and learning needs of students in a college/university setting
  • Ability to foster a welcoming environment of belonging for the student, faculty, staff, and public visitor community at NC State
  • Working knowledge of integrated library systems, and experience answering research-related questions, working with online databases and library classification systems.
  • Experience with a variety of computing tools and consumer technologies, including computing operating systems and office applications, digital cameras, tablets, projectors, and laptops.
