POSITION SUMMARY

The Mountain Safety Team Supervisor supports the daily operations of the Mountain Safety Team by providing direct supervision, training, and guidance to both paid and volunteer staff. The primary responsibility of the MST Supervisor is to enhance skier and rider safety through consistent on-mountain presence, guest engagement, and accident prevention. The MST Supervisor promotes a culture of safety by encouraging responsible skiing and riding, enforcing "Your Responsibility Code," maintaining proper signage and equipment, and addressing safety concerns.

The MST Supervisor works closely with Mountain Operations, Ski Patrol, and other departments to support safe practices and positive guest experiences. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills, and is committed to both employee and guest safety. Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and occasional short-notice shifts. This is a non-union, seasonal supervisory role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Reports to the Mountain Safety Team Manager
  • Assist with staffing, training, evaluating, and scheduling of MST staff and volunteers
  • Provide daily on-hill supervision and leadership to the MST crew
  • Monitor performance, provide feedback, and support coaching and training
  • Lead pre-shift meetings and communicate operational updates, events, and expectations
  • Promote guest and employee safety through visibility, engagement, and education
  • Track and document volunteer hours for HR reporting
  • Ensure all safety equipment and signage are in place and maintained
  • Support and enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Collaborate with Ski Patrol and other departments regarding guest safety concerns, conflict resolution, and incident follow-up
  • Maintain daily logs and report deficiencies to appropriate departments
  • Assist in documenting incidents, collecting reports, and submitting necessary paperwork
  • Support recognition programs and promote a Service Excellence culture
  • Provide guest assistance, respond to complaints professionally, and communicate lift/terrain updates when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 2-3 years of related experience; supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong skiing or riding ability (advanced to expert level required)
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and guest service
  • Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, coworkers, and management consistent with SSRC's Service Excellence standards
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Basic CPR and First Aid knowledge encouraged
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Additional education or training in recreation, safety, or leadership preferred


The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Steamboat area base salary range: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to hear clearly with or without a hearing device
  • Must be able to ski or snowboard on varied terrain at an advanced to expert level
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work is performed outdoors in a winter mountain environment with varying weather conditions

Indoor/Outdoor: Position requires both indoor administrative work and extended periods outdoors in varying weather

Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level is usually moderate; exposure to mountain equipment, snowmobiles, and guest interaction is frequent
