Building on The Aerospace Corporation's reputation as a trusted, impartial advisor with integrity and dedication to mission success, the Civil Systems Group (CSG) combines deep technical expertise with market-leading innovation to help our customers solve complex systems engineering and integration challenges. CSG is organized by core customer-facing lines of business to manage and grow programs within NASA, NOAA, and the NNSA, while extending our capabilities to other civilian federal government agencies fully integrated within Aerospace rules, regulations, processes, values, and behaviors.

Within CSG, the Enterprise, Science, and Technology Assessments (ESTA) Department provides technical support and performs independent assessments and studies for NASA, NSF, and NNSA. We are looking for a Space Environments Test Capability Subject Matter Expert (MTS Casual III- Systems Engineering) to directly work with our NASA customer to provide advice on managing unique large test facilities for Space Environments (Thermal Vacuum Chambers, Acoustic Facilities, X-Ray, EMI/EMC, etc.) capabilities. This position requires expert level knowledge of test facilities that are used for research, acceptance testing, and the build-up and integration of space hardware. ESTA advises our customers in all areas of facilities management including operations, maintenance, and long-range planning.

This is a part-time casual position, limited by the request of the customer for support.

What You'll Be Doing

  • You will be supporting assessments of nationally critical facilities.
  • You will apply specific expertise in the design, maintenance, and operation of test facilities.
  • You will assist various facility leads from NASA Centers to establish test facility requirements and perform advanced planning.
  • You will provide advice around best practices in the management of NASA, Industrial, and Academic test facilities.
  • Attend industry working groups and conferences as requested.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in aeronautics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related STEM field
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of applicable professional technical experience (post-bachelors)
  • A strong technical background in managing Space Environments Test Facilities.
  • Effectively communicate and manage conflicts and competing priorities.
  • Willing to travel approx. 10-20% (as required)
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in aeronautics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related STEM field
  • Experience with NASA, specifically the NASA Space Environments Test Management Office (SETMO).
  • Significantly more than twelve (12) years of applicable professional experience (post-bachelors)

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
