Foley & Lardner LLP is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Systems & Network Operations team. The ideal candidate will sit in either our Milwaukee or Dallas offices, however we are open to considering any Foley office for this role. The Systems Engineer is responsible for deploying and maintaining the IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, data protection systems, email and messaging platforms, cloud technologies and domain administration. The role requires the ability to obtain a mastery of assigned technologies as well as have a solid understanding of system integration and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of the firm's systems.



Responsibilities

    Deploy and support enterprise-level servers, storage, data protection, email\messaging, domain infrastructure and cloud-based solutions
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive maintenance measures
  • Automate routine tasks and processes using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell & Python)
  • Implement optimizations to improve efficiency, ensure high availability and reduce downtime
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated issues and mentor junior staff when needed
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies; recommend improvements to the IT infrastructure
  • Maintain system security through user access controls, patching, and compliance with company policies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to plan and implement projects and problem remediation
  • Act as the Systems Engineering subject matter expert on assigned areas of support and associated technologies
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively
  • Ensure that systems comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and procedures
  • Participating in on-call rotations as required


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Information Technology field required
  • Certifications in Microsoft Azure, M365 Platform, CompTIA desired
  • Experience within the legal industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of ancillary services and operations involving networking, security, desktop, and mobile devices desired
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server OS 2016 - 2025 desired
  • Ability to assist with administration tasks in Active Directory/Entra ID, GPO, DNS, DHCP, DFS
  • Understanding of Windows file services, permissions, and NTFS security preferred
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, collaborating and sharing information with others while also working independently when required #LI-Hybrid

In support of transparency and equity in the workplace, Foley provides salary ranges for all positions. The figures below represent the full compensation range of this position. The actual offered amount will be between the range minimum and midpoint based on the following factors: education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at Foley.
Milwaukee - $80,800 to $121,200
Dallas - $88,900 to $133,300
