Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications |
Earned nursing-related doctoral degree from an accredited institution by the time of appointment
One graduate degree must be in nursing (master's or doctorate)
Minimum 2 years of experience as nurse practitioner
National certification as a nurse practitioner

ABD"-but they must complete this requirement and earn the doctorate by July 31, 2026. |

Description of the Department or Unit |
The
Department of Nursing has around 560 students, which includes the pre-licensure
BSN, the online RN to
BSN, and the online
MSN programs with a concentration in nursing education. The
BSN, RN to
BSN, and
MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (
CCNE). The Department is in the process of developing a new
DNP Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall of 2026. Learn more at

Appalachian State University's
Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) is transforming the health and quality of lives of individuals, families, and communities through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. The
BCHS supports over 3,400 students in nine undergraduate and nine graduate degree programs, organized into six academic departments. The programs are located in Boone in the Holmes Convocation Center and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, the cornerstone of Boone's Wellness District. We also have a presence on our new campus in Hickory. The college supports the Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness and has a collaborative partnership with the Wake Forest School of Medicine's Physician Assistant Program and multiple health and human service agencies across the region. Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
This posting is for one or more Open Rank (Tenure-Track or Clinical Track) Faculty member position(s) - rank to be determined by the Department of Nursing in conjunction with the Dean of the College prior to an offer being made to any candidate.
The purpose of the position is to provide instruction in the
DNP
FNP program. This may include teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, simulation, or online. The faculty is responsible for collaboration with colleagues and students, for maintaining the quality of the academic curriculum through development, implementation, and evaluation; contributing to accreditation work and program evaluation; student recruitment, admissions and progression; and student advisement. As a member of the faculty, the individual will be expected to contribute to teaching, practice, scholarship, and service, including participation in official activities of the department, college, and university, among others.

ABD Description |
ABD with reduction in rank and salary:
ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since
ABD will not meet the minimum requirements,
ABD will not be considered. |
