Under the direction of the Heart and Vascular (HVC) Senior Procedural Manager, the HVC Manager of Procedural Techs is responsible for the quality of the clinical and technical care and support services ensuring consistent, efficient patient care in the HVC Procedural Labs. The HVC Manager of Procedural Techs ensures patient and family satisfaction, staff and physician needs. This role is responsible for partnering with clinical services chiefs and program leader for throughput and utilization of the HVC Procedural Labs. The Procedural Tech manager monitors volume, revenue, and team performance from hospital employees resulting in superior outcomes and the strategic objectives of Yale New Haven Hospital and the Yale New Haven Heart and Vascular Center. The Manager of Procedural Tech, leads quality improvement initiatives, provides support to staff to ensure efficient lab operations while maintaining managerial oversite and continuity. This role manages patient flow and the efficient use of human fiscal and environmental resources. She/he establishes effective collaborative relations with other members of the Cath Lab team and supports services staff. She/he collaborates with all support services to ensure that the procedural labs are equipped, supplied, prepared and properly functioning for patients and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Clinical Practice:
  • 2. Establishes an environment that is patient-focused, safe and conducive to staff development.
  • 3. Collaborates with staff, physicians and others to develop and maintain standards of care.
  • 4. Establishes effective accountability systems to ensure that clinical standards are met.
  • 5. Is competent in either a nursing or technical role, serving as a clinical role model for the staff.
  • 6. Provides direct care on a regular basis to support efficient lab operations.
  • 7. Assesses the effectiveness of patient care through direct observation and supervision of the staff.
  • 8. Resource Management:
  • 9. Plans monthly work schedule for all personnel within the Cath Labs, ensuring adequate staffing.
  • 10. Takes appropriate action to adjust work schedules to meet volume, technology and staff needs.
  • 11. Assigns nurses, techs and support staff to patients, taking into account knowledge and skills in generic and specialty competencies.
  • 12. Conducts periodic conferences to guide, develop and evaluate staff performance,
  • 13. Collaborates with Patient Service Manager to promote consistency within the Cath Labs, including organization of supplies and equipment within the rooms, the application of policies and procedures, and staff development opportunities.
  • 14. Manages turnover time within predetermined standards.
  • 15. Collaborates with Cath Lab Management in ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure an adequate inventory for standard items and to anticipate needs for less frequently used items.
  • 16. Interviews candidates seeking placement within the Cath Labs and makes recommendations to the Patient Service Manager.
  • 17. Ensures that desired patient care outcomes are achieved through efficient utilization of resources.
  • 18. Leadership:
  • 19. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration through effective communications and negotiations.
  • 20. Interprets and communicates to staff members all changes in standards of care, nursing and technical practice activities, and Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • 21. Achieves seamless delivery of services by appropriately and effectively communicating with staff, Patient Services Manager, the Heart Center's Executive Leadership and other YNHH leaders, colleagues and physicians.
  • 22. Provides leadership consistent with hospital and Heart Center vision to ensure staff understanding and commitment to strategic and unit objectives.
  • 23. Develops an effective team that provides care resulting in high service satisfaction.
  • 24. Ensures that staff are held accountable for adhering to customer relations standards.
  • 25. Investigates incidents and/or complaints and initiates action, working with the Patient Service Manager and Heart Center Executive Director as appropriate for problem solving.
  • 26. Communicates and documents pertinent incidents, actions and follow-up to the Patient Service Manger and Heart Center Executive Director in a timely manner.
  • 27. Coordinates problem solving activities with the staff and arranges meetings as needed.
  • 28. Conducts clinical service meetings at least monthly.
  • 29. Participates in Cath Lab staff meetings and disseminates appropriate information to Cath Lab staff.
  • 30. Participates in Quality Improvement activities within the Cath Lab and the Clinical Service.
  • 31. Monitors staff compliance with YNHH policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, as well as with systems and processes developed to enhance patient care.
  • 32. Professional Development:
  • 33. Works with the Nursing/Technical Leadership group to ensure that staff achieves competency in generic and specialty knowledge and skills.
  • 34. Participates in competency-based orientation for all new staff. Provides support to preceptors. Evaluates efficiency of orientation program.
  • 35. Promotes professional development of staff through the Recognition and Clinical Advancement Program and other appropriate mechanisms.
  • 36. Assists the Nursing Education Specialist, Clinical Instructor and Patient Service Manager in coordinating student assignments and evaluating student performance while in the Cath Lab.
  • 37. Applies knowledge of current and relevant issues and changes in nursing and technical, social and medical science to improve patient care and foster staff development.
  • 38. Analyzes own performance and develops a plan for professional development.
  • 39. Performs other related duties as directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Current Connecticut Nursing License or Registered Radiologic Technologist with current CT license. Bachelor's degree in Nursing required for RN candidates or equivalent/relevant experience.

EXPERIENCE

Three (3) to five (5) years cardiac interventional experience with demonstrated clinical competence and professional accountability. Demonstrated leadership skills.

Ability to direct a diverse work force in an operational environment. Ability to manage and remain effective with multiple priorities. Ability to implement and support change as required.
