Overview The (Shift) Manager directs the Substation Operations and Maintenance Supervisors and is also responsible for directing the Human and Material resources of the department in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in response to normal and emergency conditions associated with the operation and maintenance of all Substation Operations Equipment and Systems.

Core Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee Substation Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations.
- Monitor substation equipment status and coordinate with System Operations to develop contingency plans and restore outage equipment.
- Collaborate with Area Managers, Planners, and Transmission Operations to mobilize resources for planned and emergency outages.
- Manage and update outage schedules for major equipment maintenance and construction activities.
- Serve as the Operating Authority for the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System, issuing valving orders and overseeing system operations and testing.
- Respond to emergencies, including feeder contingencies and infrastructure failures, ensuring timely notifications and incident reporting.
- Supervise and ensure readiness of support systems such as communication, relay protection, and alarm systems.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external utilities on dielectric system issues and transmission feeder integrity.
- Lead emergency preparedness efforts, including annual operations drills and training for Area Management.
- Oversee procurement and coordination of contractor services for emergency support and material needs.
- Monitor and analyze surveillance data from dielectric systems, initiating corrective actions as needed.
- Act as Control Center Manager when required and support the training and performance evaluation of Managers-in-Training.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. or
- Associate's Degree and 6 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. and 3 or more years' experience as a shift supervisor preferred
Relevant Work Experience
- 5-7 years work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. Required
- Familiarity/knowledge of Transmission and Distribution electrical systems, i.e. - transformers, high voltage circuit breakers, control systems and basic relay protection is required. Candidates must possess a clear understanding of the High Pressure Dielectric Fluid System. Required
- Must be competent in the use of Excel, Word and other Windows based programs and be able to write detailed reports. Required
- Proven leadership and management skills to motivate colleagues and subordinates to effectively respond to Substation system needs. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Required
- Knowledge of Safety and Environmental procedures and practices needed to meet Company and Regulatory Requirements. Required

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
