Job Description
Astroseal Products is a manufacturer of non-woven metallic mesh used for lightning and shielding protection of composite aircraft and structures. We are currently seeking a Set-Up Operator to join our team: First shift.
The Set-Up Operator will set-up, operate and trouble shoot high speed stamping press machine tools according to specifications and tooling instructions; applying knowledge of machining methods of production of products with very close tolerances. Need to be able to successfully set dies on multi-ton presses. Work requires accuracy and detail orientation.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions regarding fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, and depth of cut. Required tolerances are critically precise with minute measurements.
- Assign set-up number and complete initial documentation for 1st Piece Release form.
- Select, align and bolt correct top dies on slide and bottom die holder onto bolster plate. Set-up double foil for outside clearance cut following specified procedures. Set stripper die opening and stripper die distance according to specifications.
- Ensure proper gearing placement for correct product weight. Set bump stops.
- Position and secure roll of raw material on payout.
- Start machine, observe operation of machine, make required adjustments and verify conformance of machined work pieces to specifications, using precision measuring instruments for quality weights. Submit completed 1st Piece release to quality department for approval and release machine into production.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate/GED
- One to three years related manufacturing and set-up experience.
- Must have a working knowledge of production high speed presses.
KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES:
- Knowledge: Knowledge of basic math (i.e. compute square footage), the ability to read, understand, and complete production paperwork. Knowledge of machines, tools, production processes, and quality control. Must be able to use production hand tools, such as wrenches, cutting shears and screwdrivers, and precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and loupes.
- Language: The position requires the ability to read, and interpret and communicate business information and reports. Must have the ability to write clearly and represent the company in a professional manner.
- Reasoning Abilities: Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking and mechanical ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and use judgment and data information to draw valid conclusions.
- Organization Skills: Strong organizational skills, strict attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize as necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Constant (67-100%) use of hands and arms, reaching, bending and moving about production machinery in a light manufacturing environment. Position requires manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination. Work is not sedentary. Frequent (34-66%) pushing, moving, lifting material weighing up to 80 pounds.
Constant mental/visual attention involving close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus throughout the day. Performing dimensional inspection requires close visual attention.
