Another Source's client, East Texas A&M University (ETAMU), is hiring a Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships to join their team in Commerce, Texas.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships, under general direction, leads the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and scholarships. This position ensures transparent, student-centered communication with families, fostering a welcoming environment and a clear understanding of responsibilities, policies, and procedures. The director also develops strategic recommendations for institutional aid that align with the university's enrollment priorities and long-term financial sustainability, emphasizing academic achievement, geographic representation, and socioeconomic access.

Reporting to senior leadership, the Director oversees the administration and operation of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and scholarships. You will:

    Strategic Leadership & Enrollment Management
  • Develop and implement financial aid strategies that support recruitment, retention and financial sustainability goals.
  • Contribute to the university's enrollment management plan; collaborate with Admissions and other units on recruitment activities and special events.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for institutional aid and scholarship allocation to achieve targeted student body profiles.
  • Compliance & Policy Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with federal (Title IV), state, institutional and NCAA regulations.
  • Interpret, update and implement financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit reports to federal, state, system and other governing bodies.
  • Serve as liaison with internal and external auditors, maintaining audit-ready records and practices.
  • Operations and System Management
  • Oversee daily operations of financial aid programs, including loans, grants, scholarships and work-study.
  • Direct the use and optimization of the Banner financial aid system and related technologies (e.g., CRM)
  • Monitor workload management and ensure accurate, timely awarding, disbursement, and communication with students and families.
  • Coordinate with the Financial Services to manage reconciliations and student compliance under Title IV.
  • Budget and Resource Management
  • Develop, justify and manage departmental operating budgets and financial aid fund allocations.
  • Forecast aid expenditures and long-range funding needs; submit applications for federal, state and other grant programs
  • Identify and pursue new aid resources through external partnerships and university committees.
  • Staff Leadership & Development
  • Supervise and evaluate professional staff, graduate assistants and student employees.
  • Provide training and cross-training on financial aid processes, systems and customer service practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and student centered service.
  • Student, Family & Community Engagement
  • Advise and counsel students and families on financial aid eligibility, appeals, and compliance requirements (including entrance, exit and withdrawal counseling).
  • Serve as advisor to the University Financial Aid Appeals Committee.
  • Lead outreach and presentations for area schools, community groups and campus events.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, high school counselors and community stakeholders to expand awareness of financial aid programs.

What You'll Bring

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills: Five to seven years of progressively responsible financial aid experience. Experience leading staff, teams or projects in a financial aid or enrollment services environment. Demonstrated knowledge of Federal, State, and institutional financial aid regulations and practices. Experience financial aid/student information systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday or similar). Strong leadership, organizational, communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to use technology to automate processes. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends as needed to meet student campus needs. Ability to travel.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver's license.
  • Physical Requirements: None
  • Other Requirements:As an advisor to students and/or processor of student athlete information, will be required to receive training in athletic in NCAA compliance related to student financial aid and maintain adherence to applicable regulations. Must be in good standing on any Federal student loans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field
  • Experience with Banner, PeopleSoft of similar SIS
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development and enrollment strategy
  • NASFAA certification (FAAC preferred)
