Position: Quantum Photonics Co-op Number of Position(s): 1 Duration: 4 months+ Date: January - May 2026 Location: On-site Murray Hill, NJ Educational recommendations: Currently a PhD candidate in Physics, Engineering, or a related field at an accredited school in the US. This Spring co-op position, starting in January 2026, is within the Opto-Electronic Integration Research Group at Bell Labs where we are pursuing research into complex photonic and electronic integration for future optical communications and quantum photonic applications. It will involve testing and characterization of novel photonic components as well as simulations to understand results and performance.
As part of our team, you will:
Collaborate with our researchers to push the state of the art in advanced photonic devices:
- Simulation/modeling of thin-film lithium niobate photonic integrated circuits (PICs)
- Performing experimental characterization of new PICs
- Present research findings through oral presentations within the team
- Generate publications for the leading conferences and journals in the field of photonics.
Demonstrated hands-on experiences and publications in the area of integrated photonics, including silicon, silicon nitride, lithium niobate, or III-V integrated photonics. Experience in testing and characterization of optoelectronic devices and systems. In-depth understanding of semiconductor physics and devices. Problem-solving mind, creative, and good communication skills
