Responsible for the efficient operation of cleaning activities.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provide leadership and supervision of custodial employees in the day to day operation of cleaning college facilities.
  2. Supervise and communicate with contracted custodial services.
  3. Coordinate and supervise room setups and special assignments.
  4. Train and certify forklift and utility cart safety and proper use every three years. Maintain train the trainer certification.
  5. Review and make recommendations for forklift and utility cart policies.
  6. Evaluate the job performance of supervised employees.
  7. Schedule staff to assure adequate coverage.
  8. Schedule off campus sites to assure adequate coverage.
  9. Develop and implement and keep uptodate a schedule for heaving cleaning such as stripping and waxing of floors and the maintenance and cleaning of carpets.
  10. Develop implement and keep uptodate a checklist to assure buildings are properly cleaned.
  11. Monitor and maintain safety in the workplace.
  12. Meet with contractors/vendors to learn new building surface cleaning requirements.
  13. Complete yearly training for safety and chemical use and application.
  14. Maintain cleaning supply inventory and order supplies for work areas.
  15. Make recommendations for improvements and assist in the implementation of changes.
  16. Assist the director of physical plant in setting priorities for the methods and procedures to be used in accomplishing goals and objectives of staff.
  17. Develop implement and suggest input ideas for new projects.
  18. Administrate maintenance work order software.
  19. Asses training needs and coordinate training.
  20. Other duties assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.Associates degree or equivalent work experience and/or training preferred.

Experience Requirements:
    Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience and 3 years custodial experience preferred.

Knowledge:
    Ability to operate and repair custodial equipment. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills; Microsoft Office; multi-line digital phone system, and other computer generated scheduling tools.

Skills:
    Detailed knowledge of custodial products, floor and carpet care, chemical applications, and an overall knowledge of sanitation requirements. Familiar with OSHA regulations.

Personal Requirements:
    Ability to communicate effectively to subordinates, staff and supervisor and to demonstrate a service oriented attitude. Excellent listening skills and extreme confidentiality required. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment. Ability to act as a liaison between staff, supervisor and administration. License to operate a motorized vehicle on and off campus.
