JOB PURPOSE: The Kitchen Manager is responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing meal service for two homeless shelter facilities. This role ensures that nutritious, balanced, and cost-effective meals are prepared in compliance with health and safety standards. The Kitchen Manager supervises kitchen staff and volunteers, manages food inventory, and coordinates deliveries between shelters to ensure consistent meal service across both sites.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Plan and prepare daily meals for residents across two shelter locations, accommodating dietary needs when possible.
  • Ensure meals meet nutrition and portion standards.
  • Coordinate food preparation, cooking, and serving schedules to maintain efficiency.
  • Oversee plating, distribution, and cleanup of meals at both sites.
  • Supervise and train kitchen assistants, porters, and volunteers.
  • Assign daily tasks, provide guidance, and ensure food safety procedures are followed.
  • Foster a respectful and teamwork-oriented kitchen environment.
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Implement and monitor cleaning, storage, and temperature control procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain ServSafe Food Manager (or equivalent) certification and ensure team follows standards.
  • Manage food inventory, ordering, and storage across both shelters.
  • Coordinate with food banks, donations, and vendors to maximize resources.
  • Monitor food budgets and minimize waste through proper portioning and planning.
  • Track and report food service data as required.
  • Coordinate preparation and delivery of meals to both shelter sites on time.
  • Adjust meal plans and schedules based on shelter occupancy and resident needs.
  • Work closely with Shelter Managers at each site to address special requests or events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required; culinary training preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years of experience in food service kitchen management, or large-scale meal preparation. Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and sanitation standards.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion. Dependable, team-oriented, and flexible with scheduling needs (including evenings, weekends, or holidays).

LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record. ServSafe Food Managercertificate or equivalent food safety certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).

TEAMWORK: Ability to lead and train staff and volunteers with compassion and professionalism. Strong organizational and time management skills.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

WORK LOCATION: In Person

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others. Must be 21 years or older.Must be a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident.Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local;Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality.
