We foster an inclusive culture and looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are hiring for a Medical Device Sr. Manager, Software Engineering - LCM in Lake Forest, CA who is a highly experienced medical device industry professional with a proven track-record in medical-device software development and software development leadership. This person works under the direction of the Director of LCM software, manages a team of LCM software leads, works closely with other LCM resource managers, and coordinates cross-functionally with other organizations to support changes for legacy devices that require software and OS updates. The Sr. Manager will be responsible for ensuring projects align with business needs and priorities. They will drive individual projects on their own (including technical aspects, as needed - coding, etc.), and will oversee the software leads within the LCM organization. Key activities will include supporting development of project schedules and budgets, identifying resource needs, and driving software development initiatives. You will need leadership skills, technical expertise, a strong understanding of software medical device development, and the ability to handle complex projects. In this role, a typical day will include:
Plans, conducts, and directs research and/or development that is highly complex in nature, necessitating the expert application of advanced knowledge in a particular field of specialization. Conducts process research, process development, and process upscaling for medical device products. Investigates and evaluates existing technology for design or processes updates, as needed, for medical device development. Supports engineering decision making by providing advice and recommendations to global project teams. Utilizes in-depth scientific and technical knowledge within clear framework. Provides expert input to complex assignments. Troubleshoots complex anomalies and field issues for on-market products, evaluates supplier hardware changes for impact to software, defines recommended solutions to meet expectations, and incorporates changes according to defined processes and procedures, in line with industry standards and regulations. Collaborates closely with onshore and offshore development teams, Product Security, Technical Services, Field Service, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing, and other internal organizations (as required) to assure software changes are aligned with company objectives and requirements. Identifies and interacts with outside vendors, as required, and holds outside vendors accountable for their deliverables. Assures software development project timelines and expectations are met and adheres to procedures and processes and industry standards. Interacts with senior personnel on complex or significant technical matters, often requiring coordination across organizational lines. Lead and manage software engineering teams for timely and successful project delivery Provide strategic direction for software development aligned with business goals Improve and optimize engineering processes to enhance team efficiency and product quality Work with senior management to define and implement engineering strategies Develop and mentor team members for professional growth and technical expertise Oversee multiple engineering projects and teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives Make decisions on project direction, resource management, and technical solutions
Experience:
Medical device experience is required. Must have a solid understanding of FDA/ISO regulations for software development, including IEC 62304, and of Software Development Lifecycle Management (SDLC) Must have experience with C++, C#, and Microsoft technology stack, with a clear understanding of object-oriented software design and large software architecture. Highly desired skills: WPF, QT, .NET, SQL. Ability to work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders at all levels within the organization. Ability to work independently, proactively identify issues, recommend, and implement solutions, and deliver quality results on schedule while managing multiple tasks and internal customers. Solid understanding of Window operating environments (Win10, Win7, etc.) Experience with one or more software configuration management systems and related tools, such as: Confluence, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Jira, Git, GitHub, TFS. Experience with Microsoft Visual Studios, ADO, or other integrated development environment (IDE) tool. Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity concepts are a plus. Prior experience creating and executing software testing at unit, integration, and system levels. Excellent interpersonal & Communication skills to build positive departmental and inter-departmental relationships in a virtual, remote, and asynchronous environment. Robust process management, problem-solving skills and superior presentation capabilities.
