The Columbia Nano Initiative (CNI) at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for a Senior Staff Associate I position, serving as an equipment the Chief Lab Engineer for the CNI shared labs. Reporting to the Senior Director of the CNI Labs and to the individual lab directors, the Chief Lab Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the labs equipment, lab safety systems, and supporting systems maintenance, including: monitoring the performance of equipment; performing routine and preventative maintenance, inspection, calibration, and repairs; specifying and ordering equipment parts necessary for repair and maintenance. Connecting and installing gas cylinders, including hazardous gases in a safe manner, mobilizing chemicals and lab apparel if needed. The Chief Lab Engineer should be able to read and comprehend manufacture manuals of equipment and technical drawings. The Chief Lab Engineer is expected to document equipment failures and maintenance procedures as well as writing Standard Operating Procedures for preventative and periodical maintenance. The Chief Lab Engineer will provide technical assistance and guidance to users of the labs when operating and solving problems with equipment. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in operation and/or maintenance of lab equipment, specifically experience in working in a clean room micro and nanofabrication lab is necessary. Must be able to function independently. Applicants should possess strong mechanical skills including knowledge of fluid delivery systems, HVAC and Vacuum systems, pneumatic controls, and electrical troubleshooting. Master's degree or equivalent combinatino of education and experience preferred.
