For over four decades, SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) has provided comprehensive environmental planning, regulatory compliance, and natural and cultural resource management services to businesses and government clients across the U.S. SWCA is an employee-owned firm of scientists, planners, and technical experts. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, SWCA has 45 offices and around 1900 employees throughout the U.S. and in select international locations to serve clients in energy generation, transmission, oil and gas, mining, federal land management, transportation, and more. This position is available for a distributed work environment.

The Senior Director of People Support will work in tandem with SWCA's leadership team to ensure that People Support efforts align with organizational goals. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO), the Senior Director of People Support is a creative, hands-on organizational influencer, listener, and coach who will provide strategic and tactical guidance to leadership at all levels while overseeing employee engagement; performance management; diversity, equity and inclusion programs (DEI); HR policies and compliance; as well as leading and developing our savvy and service-oriented People Support team.

What you will accomplish

  • In partnership with the CPO, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and other leaders, provide vision and strategic direction for SWCA's people programs, offering expertise and thought leadership to shape and advance our people philosophy.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, proactive People Support team encompassing: Employee Relations, HR Compliance, DEI, and other HR functions through cultivating agility, collaboration, and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the administration of employee engagement surveys, consulting and strategizing with senior leadership on measures to continually enhance employee engagement and building upon SWCA's enviable culture and position as an employer of choice.
  • Oversee the performance appraisal process, ensuring effective goal development and execution through regional/department People Support Business Partners' collaboration with leadership at all levels.
  • Lead and direct the regional People Support Business Partner team in delivering coaching, training, counseling, mediation, and advisory services to leaders and staff, ensuring timely and effective resolution of employee-related matters.
  • Direct the proactive assessment, creation, and ongoing refinement of policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure alignment with SWCA's people-centric culture and legal compliance.
  • Maintain oversight of industry trends and employment legislation, ensuring SWCA's practices are compliant within multi-jurisdictional international, federal, state, and local requirements. Advise senior leadership on necessary actions to maintain compliance across multi-state and multi-country environments.
  • Prepare and analyze HR metrics; set and track key performance indicators (KPIs) indicative of a healthy thriving workforce; and provide reporting to leaders that support decision making in specified areas.
  • Foster collaboration and synergy within the HR department by partnering with peers in Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Total Rewards and People Analytics, HRIS, Sustainability, and Special Projects.
  • Play a key role in leading and promoting effective cross-functional collaboration with Operational Leadership and corporate support departments, including Technology, Payroll, Safety, and Marketing.
  • Ensure your team responds to requests for EEO data and prepares and audits required reporting for federal, state, and local agencies on time and with accuracy.
  • Deliver frequent strategic analysis and insights to the CPO and SLT to position SWCA as an industry leader in People Success.
  • Serve as an ambassador for SWCA's Safety Culture and implementation.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, psychology, communications, or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, including some experience managing others; or any equivalent combination of experience, performance, training, and/or education.
  • Prior experience consulting, coaching, and influencing senior leaders.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of human resources policies and procedures, and knowledge of Federal and State regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, HIPAA, and EEO laws and regulations.
  • Proven facilitation experience and skills with meetings and presentations, and ability to interface with all levels of staff with tact and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Twelve (12) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, performance, training, and/or education.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Prior experience working with professional services firm.

Additional Information:

  • We anticipate travel for the first year approximately 25% of the time and 15-20% annually thereafter.

An employee in this US-based position can expect an annual salary of $157,248.00 - $200,928.00. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
