The Office of Enrollment Management is seeking a Marketing Specialist, Communications on the Macon, Georgia, campus. The Marketing Specialist supports marketing and communications goals and strategies for the Office of Enrollment Management, as assigned, and is responsible for project management for a variety of print and digital deliverables; content development across print and digital channels; and management of communication campaigns targeted at specific prospective-student, current-student, or influencer audiences.

Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Specialist, Communications is responsible for writing marketing/communications content for multiple print and digital channels; project management and coordination for a variety of print and digital marketing/communications deliverables; implementation and management of communication flow targeted at specific prospective student, current student, or influencer audiences; and implementation of content marketing and social media strategies and tactics. This position will write and maintain web content; write for search engine optimization; write for a variety of print and digital deliverables; collaborate on creative concepts; gather, track, and report on a variety of data to support strategic marketing decisions; assist with event-related marketing; support marketing initiatives as assigned; and perform other duties as assigned.

These responsibilities include management of ongoing/automated and ad-hoc direct mail and email campaigns and daily operation of a CRM to manage these campaigns, ensuring that all messages are delivered on time to the correct recipients. This position will also support the management of other graphic and creative content assets, such as coordinating photo and video shoots, organizing and managing photo and video assets, and assisting with organizing and managing graphics files. This position will support budget/resource tracking as assigned. The Marketing Specialist, Communications will serve as team liaison to Enrollment Management AVPs, directors, counselors, and other staff members for specific projects and campaigns, as assigned.

Duties include:
  • COMMUNICATION FLOW MANAGEMENT:
    Creates, implements, and manages multiple communication flows within the CRM, targeted at specific student and influencer audiences. Coordinates multiple print, electronic, and website components related to a specific campaign.
  • CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT:
    Writes, edits, and proofreads content targeted at a variety of audiences (such as high school seniors, parents, adult learners, prospective graduate students, community leaders, etc.) to be used across multiple channels or campaigns, such as print collateral, direct mail pieces, emails, letters, websites, blogs, social media, content marketing, etc. Provides basic graphic design support and manages production of in-house print jobs as assigned/needed.
  • GENERAL MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT:
    Collaborates with Marketing and Communications and Enrollment Management team members on creative concepts and strategic plans. Supports enrollment-related and special events, operational needs, and other marketing and communications initiatives as assigned.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND INTERNAL CLIENT/ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT:
    Manages projects or parts of larger projects as assigned, facilitating movement through content development, creative execution, proofing/approval, production, and delivery processes. Ensures that milestones and deadlines are met, and provides progress reports and updates to stakeholders as requested.


Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Technical Communication, Public Relations, English, Business Administration, or a related degree/field is required, along with one year of related experience which includes:
  • writing content with a marketing voice for a variety of audiences with the ability to adhere to writing styles/rules (such as AP style);
  • participation in marketing/communications plan development and/or implementation;
  • managing successful completion of multiple communications-related projects simultaneously;
  • writing and maintaining marketing-related content on digital platforms, such as: websites, emails, social media, etc., and for print pieces;
  • coordinating and collaborating with graphic designers, writers, photographers, printers, etc., to develop and produce content, assets, artwork, and deliverables;
  • coordinating multiple details and deadlines simultaneously, with accuracy and urgency.


Candidates with knowledge of and experience using Slate CRM (or similar system) for higher education marketing/communications are preferred.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Understands the admissions recruitment process from multiple internal points of view for multiple target audiences;
  • Demonstrates strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with ability to identify the needs for shifts in voice, tone, message, etc., to fit a particular audience, medium, and purpose, in order to produce quality, compelling content that is free of spelling/grammar errors;
  • Ability to understand how to operate CRM technology in order to identify appropriate audience targets for various campaigns and to initiate and maintain the appropriate communication sequence with accuracy;
  • Ability to understand web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends;
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and proactively with leaders, teammates, and stakeholders in order to promote positive professional relationships and ensure achievement of project milestones and deadlines;
  • Demonstrates good judgment in decision-making based on a thorough understanding of Enrollment Management and Marketing Team goals, priorities, and strategies and proactively seeks guidance or direction in order to effectively and efficiently achieve University goals;
  • Ability to organize and record project-related expenses and track for budget reporting, as assigned;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other Mercer locations or other related locations or off-campus events, on occasion as required;
  • Demonstrates excellent grammar for communication;
  • Demonstrates impeccable attention to detail;
  • Possesses an understanding of marketing;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks to their successful and timely completion;
  • Critical thinking, strategic thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and evaluation skills are required to be successful in this position.
