Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Applies professional and/or regulatory knowledge and expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and leads one or more program(s) within a single discipline. This position provides strategic oversight with respect to the Medical Center's Hazardous Waste Management Program and Safety Programs under the Environment of Care purview. Under general direction, this position designs, develops, implements and oversees programs to identify and mitigate safety hazards to promote a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental health and safety program along with one year experience in a hospital emergency management program
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English, including advanced political acumen and skill to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies in a highly political environment.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Certification in Healthcare Safety Professional Program, HAZWOPER Program
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Environmental Health & Safety, engineering, business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced skill to effectively represent the organization to state and federal authorities, and community groups.
  • Advanced or expert knowledge/understanding of broad range of EH&S fields and familiarity with all EH&S fields.
  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within budget and time constraints.
  • Advanced ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of computer software programs, including MS Office
  • Experience in administrative analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated managerial/leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • Certified Hospital Safety Professional (CHSP)
