A Brief Overview
This is a part time (hourly) position offered through PolicyLab and the Division of General Pediatrics. The PriCARE trainer position will assist the Principal Investigator and more senior study staff in activities related to, PriCARE, a parenting intervention for parents of children with behavioral problems. Responsibilities of PriCARE trainer will include the following:

  • Completing training on how to conduct PriCARE parenting training group sessions at CHOP
  • Conduct PriCARE parenting training group sessions at CHOP for caregivers of patients aged 18 months-6 years with reported behavioral problems
  • Conduct PriCARE parent training group sessions with foster caregivers
  • Participate in regular supervision sessions
  • Review videos of caregivers practicing PriCARE skills with their child and provide individualized feedback and coaching to caregivers
  • Participate in PriCARE refresher trainings and trainings on updates to the PriCARE model
  • Participate in and conduct fidelity monitoring observations. The PriCARE trainer must complete the required training and demonstrate mastery of skills before leading trainings with caregivers.

  • Provide individualized coaching to caregivers based on review of skill practice videos
  • Participate in refresher and update trainings
  • Participate in fidelity monitoring observations

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree - Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Previous experience treating at-risk children and parents - Required and
  • Experience and passion for the development of healthy families - Required
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic groups - Preferred
  • Experience in urban settings - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with supervision. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to work accurately, work well with others, and pay strict attention to detail. (Required proficiency)
  • Must be adaptable to do work which is varied, and requires an intellectual and professional approach. (Required proficiency)
  • Requires a flexibility of skills and hours. (Required proficiency)

  • Background in child development (Preferred proficiency)
  • Specific knowledge regarding young children (Preferred proficiency)

Individuals in this role are or may be required by the hospital system to provide oral language assistance as part of their assigned job responsibilities.

Proficiency in speaking and understanding both spoken English and Spanish, including any necessary specialized vocabulary, terminology and phraseology, is defined as the ability to effectively, accurately and appropriately communicate directly with individuals with emerging English proficiency (EEP).

Proof of proficiency for all Qualified Bilingual Staff may be documented with the Language Services Division by:

Achievement of a passing score on an oral language proficiency examination administered by a third-party agency which would include demonstration of the ability to communicate fully and effectively in the language of the test; or, Obtaining a waiver of the examination by submitting documentation of completion of a secondary diploma or higher education degree in a language other than English; or, Providing proof that the candidate has taken the same assessment from the same testing company and the score meets the CHOP standard for passing scores.

Note that an individual who meets the definition of Qualified Bilingual Staff is not necessarily qualified to interpret or translate for individuals with emerging English proficiency unless that individual has undergone medical interpreter training and meets state and national requirements for medical interpreters or for interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, as verified by the Language Services Division.
