Location: Houston, TX

Reports to: Controller

Compensation Range: $22 - $34 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Specialist to manage day-to-day financial transactions, including customer billing, vendor invoicing, and payment processing. This role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end closings, and ensuring timely collections and payments.


What You Will Do

  • Record sales of mulch and other products into the accounting system.
  • Invoice customers, process credit card payments, and record cash sales.
  • Process credit applications for new customers.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collections.
  • Reconcile assigned company bank accounts monthly.
  • Enter vendor invoices with attention to purchase order matching and location coding.
  • Reconcile AP details to vendor statements and the general ledger.
  • Assist with monthly closing and provide audit support.
  • Perform electronic filing and document storage.
  • Research and resolve vendor discrepancies.
  • Handle mail and perform general filing duties.
  • Support other duties and special projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, with a focus on AP and AR.
  • Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-location business environment.
  • Familiarity with sustainable or recycling industry operations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.


What to Expect

You'll play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and operational efficiency of TGU's accounting processes. In your first 12 months, success will be measured by your ability to streamline AP/AR workflows, maintain clean reconciliations, and support timely financial reporting. You'll collaborate with internal teams and external partners, contributing to TGU's mission of environmental responsibility and operational excellence.


Physical Requirements and Environment

Must be able to sit, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes moderate noise typical of an office setting (computers, printers, phones).
