Operations Manager - Corrugated Facility

Job Summary

The Operations Manager will lead the performance and profitability of a new corrugated packaging facility within UFP Packaging. This role is pivotal in launching and scaling operations at the new site, and may serve as the lead person for the plant. The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily management and coordination of production and support services - HR, safety, shipping, maintenance, and other administrative functions.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Staffs, develops, and coaches the operations, production, and administrative management team, evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required.

  • Evaluates plant(s)'s performance to budget. Plans and initiates corrective action as required.

  • Ensures that all plant(s) assets are properly managed and safeguarded.

  • Ensures plant(s) meets operating budgets and ROI expectations.

  • Develops and/or approves production objectives, goals, and operating short and long-term plans.

  • Ensures that job classifications and compensation levels are relevant to the labor market and are in line with cost goals.

  • Leads the operation's new product development initiatives.

  • Ensures that finished goods' pricing is optimal to ensure maximum profitability levels for the plant(s).

  • Responsible for product costing and burden accuracy.

  • Responsible for optimizing operations - cuts and yields, to maximize the "mfg. for margin" opportunities.

  • Approves account payables and payroll.

  • Develops and/or approves specific operating policies and procedures as required.

  • Ensures the operation(s) complies with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations and all Company policies and procedures.

  • Participates as an active member of the plant Safety Committee and ensures that plant(s) operations are consistent with Company and OSHA policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Prepares various reports as required.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of work experience as a plant manager.

  • Packaging industry experience is required; corrugated packaging experience is preferred.

  • Staffs, develops, and coaches the operations, production, and administrative management team, evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required.

  • Ensures the operation(s) comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations and all Company policies and procedures.

  • Evaluates the plant(s)'s performance to budget. Plans and initiates corrective action as required.

  • Responsible for optimizing operations - cuts and yields, to maximize the "mfg. for margin" opportunities.

  • Ensures that all plant(s) assets are properly managed and safeguarded.

  • Prepares various reports as required

  • Participates as an active member of the plant Safety Committee and ensures that plant(s) operations are consistent with Company and OSHA policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Preferred experience and knowledge of UFP's organization, culture, and product lines.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ensures that job classifications and compensation levels are relevant to the labor market and are in line with cost goals.

  • Develops and/or approves specific operating policies and procedures as required.

  • Ensures that finished goods' pricing is optimal to ensure maximum profitability levels for the plant(s).

  • Responsible for product costing and burden accuracy.

  • Approves account payables and payroll.

  • Leads the operation's new product development initiatives.

  • Develops and/or approves production objectives, goals, and operating short and long-term plans.

  • Ensures plant(s) meets operating budgets and ROI expectations.

  • Develops a strategy for controlling and minimizing aged inventory

  • Coordinates Physical Inventory planning

  • Participates in random cycle counts

  • Evaluates cycle counter discrepancies

  • Reviews and/or approves Invoice Registers

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Planner (it's a Project Management tool)

  • Develops operating budgets and capex recommendations

Compensation & Benefit Information

Salary Pay Range: $90,000 - $130,000, annually dependent on experience

Bonus/Incentive Pay
Annual performance bonus opportunity based on Company and specific business unit ROI and PBOP achievement criteria and individual job responsibility and performance.
