We are seeking a hands-on engineering leader to drive continuous improvement and support manufacturing operations within our Rieke Packaging facilities. This role will be responsible for managing manufacturing engineering changes and serving as the direct point of contact for the Shop Floor, Tool Room, and Maintenance staff. The ideal candidate will lead engineering improvement projects, identifying and implementing initiatives to enhance equipment and operator performance in areas such as quality, uptime, cycle time, and scrap reduction. Additionally, this role will play a key part in the successful implementation of new product introductions and equipment installations or upgrades.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure performance goals are met for quality, on-time delivery to the customer, equipment throughput, equipment uptime and scrap.
  • Identify and implement performance improvement projects to drive continuous improvement of equipment, labor and other key resources.
  • Develop and manage external relationships with mold suppliers, assembly equipment suppliers and local fabricators to achieve overall performance objectives.
  • Assess issues and define/implement improvements to the Stamping, Assembly and Molding processes.
  • Participate in design of new equipment with corporate technical team and various vendors.
  • Lead with outside vendors and corporate technical team members the commissioning of new equipment, ensuring the design specification is achieved.
  • Develop and implement well-managed process for equipment changeovers to optimize uptime and ensure performance objectives are achieved. Continuously explore opportunities to reduce equipment changeover times.
  • Develop and document procedures related to operation of & equipment maintenance. Train team members to effectively use the procedures in their day-to-day roles.
  • Conduct safety compliance audits and implement corrective action as required.
  • Ensure the operation meets environmental regulations and operating certificates; implement corrective actions as required.
  • Work with Process Technicians in their daily tasks to meet company objectives.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Production operators, shift supervisors, maintenance engineers, tool room engineers, quality staff, plant manager, Corporate technical team
  • External: Customers, Suppliers including tool builders and automation equipment manufacturers located both in the U.S. and globally

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • At the Rieke manufacturing facilities, we operate three shifts per day. There are multiple molding machines, steel stamping/forming and several assembly cells with multiple pieces of equipment per cell.
  • There will be occasional travel to other Rieke manufacturing facilities and suppliers.
  • There will be occasional work on multiple shifts to lead training, implementation of new processes, performance improvements, or in support of operations.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Experience through internships in Engineering field.
  • Experience in 2D and 3D Drawings Characteristics
  • Lean Manufacturing Knowledge
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • 0-2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment in preferred.

Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location.
