A Brief Overview Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager to lead a dedicated team of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This leadership role is vital to ensuring the continued delivery of safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care for critically ill children in one of the nation's top pediatric hospitals. In collaboration with Nursing and Clinical Care Services, as well as divisional leadership, the APP Manager will oversee the clinical practice, professional development, and operational efficiency of the APP team. This includes maintaining provider competency, supporting evidence-based practices, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and optimizing patient care systems and workflows. This position is 60% managerial and 40% clinical. The APP Manager will play a key role in supporting staff development, fostering professional growth, and encouraging involvement in scholarly and quality improvement initiatives. This position is also responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the APP role in alignment with CHOP's mission and values, and for ensuring that care delivery meets the highest standards of excellence. Ideal candidates will have strong clinical experience in pediatric critical care, a passion for team leadership, and a vision for advancing advanced practice within a high-acuity, high-impact environment. What you will do
- Direct Patient Care
- Maintains clinical practice as outlined in delineation of privileges
- Maintain and demonstrate ongoing competency by providing direct patient care at least once per month
- Compliance with OPPE and other accountability metrics as a member of the licensed staff under Medical Staff Affairs (CRNP, PA and CNM roles only)
- Practice
- Formulates standards for professional practice consistent with national standards and/or evidence-based practice.
- Compliance with institution wide patient safety initiatives including transparent practice through system reporting mechanisms and demonstration of shared accountability for safe practices.
- Professionalism/Leadership
- Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships to ensure safe patient care
- Serve as a change agent to lead innovation through exemplary clinical practice
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote the advancement of clinical practice of the advanced practice provider
- Participate in the identification and review of patient safety issues and implementation of process improvement plans
- Serve as a physical presence in the clinical setting for evaluation and application of identified processes improvement
- Communicates effectively with APP teams as well as senior leadership to ensure streamlined care
- Assumes responsibility for oversight of all processes associated with onboarding, ongoing education, and maintaining standards and competency for all APPs
- Ensures the delivery of safe, exemplary patient care through established systems related to the development of APP teams, while also ensuring an environment of professional growth to promote retention
- Provides leadership for the APP team leads in practice area and communicates any updates and clinical practice changes in a timely fashion.
- Establishes an environment of shared decision making. Sets a standard for nursing and inter-professional shared governance.
- Creates an environment which is blame free, a spirit of appreciative inquiry. Promotes team building and colleague development
- Holds APPs accountable for maintaining licenses, certifications, reappointment and APP policies
- Represents Center for Advanced Practice and unit level APPs at a variety of venues including: Nurse Manager meeting, DON/NM meeting, Unit Leader Partners, Business/Finance Operations meetings, etc.
- Resource Management
- Leads APPs in promoting quality, efficient, and cost-effective care.
- Prepares and manages operating and capital budget for assigned areas. Maintains deadlines and can address variances.
- Monitors APP clinical productivity.
- Accountable for OPPE metrics and outcomes related to APP work and practice
- Ensures compliance with APP billing regulations.
- Participates in Divisional/Departmental and network wide initiatives to represent APP practice and leverage the role of APPs.
Education Qualifications
- Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant - Required
- Doctorate Nursing or Physician Assistant - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least three (3) years experience as an APP - Required
- At least five (5) years experience as an APP - Preferred
- Management/leadership experience - Preferred

$126,560.00 - $167,690.00 Annually
