Junior Distribution System Operator

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has an immediate opening for a Junior Distribution System Operator. The primary functions of this position will be to monitor the distribution system in compliance with SMECO operational procedures. Ensures configuration changes/updates are incorporated into the outage management system (OMS). The candidate will monitor and operate OMS to: (a) detect and respond to distribution incidents by dispatching resources for construction, maintenance and outages ensuring timely restorations; (b) analyze and promptly act on OMS incidents to locate the trouble and assist field crews in troubleshooting outages with all information available; (c) monitor alarm status on all distribution lines; (d) assist the Sr. Distribution System Operators, Distribution System Operators and Associate Distribution System Operators in updating the OMS, Pragma Geo and switching activities. Under supervision, monitors SCADA alarms and relays information to crews and Senior DSO's. This position will report issues with telephone and CATV lines to respective companies. This position will monitor (a) the weather application to provide timely reports of any severe weather warnings/watches, etc. to Operations and/or senior management. b) Operate radio in accordance with Co-op and FCC regulations. The candidate will be responsible for utilizing software products/systems including but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Geographical Information System (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS), Computer Automated Dispatch (CAD), and the Automated Roster Call Out System (ARCOS). Lastly, this position will evaluate SMECO Emergency Desk calls and determines required course of action. Perform other such duties as assigned and completes training necessary to maintain and enhance job performance.

This position requires a candidate who has the abilityto relay information effectively to team members, supervisors, and sometimes customers. Coordinate work with others, which means clear, concise communication. Ability to assess situations, identify problems, and find efficient solutions in high-pressure situations

This position requires business administration and management training or technical training in the electrical field preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

A minimum of one-year progressive experience with an electric utility, preferred.

The starting salary range for this position is $63,800 - $79,700. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401(k) 6% dollar for dollar match and an additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
