Join IMEG as an Innovation Specialist (Parametric Engineering) New Grad in either St Louis, MO or San Francisco, CA. The Innovation Specialist 1 supports the firm's parametric and structural engineering innovation efforts, contributing both technical and engineering judgment to early-stage innovation initiatives. This role focuses on developing, testing, and validating parametric tools that enhance structural engineering workflows, enabling greater efficiency, accuracy, and integration with design platforms. The position also provides technical assistance, documents workflows, and applies new technologies that support the firm's strategic projects.

As an entry-level position, it offers foundational training in the principles of innovation within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, with opportunities to shadow senior specialists and actively contribute to innovation tasks that directly advance project delivery and design capabilities.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Support the development and testing of parametric tools for structural engineering workflows, including Grasshopper, Python components, Revit, ETABS, and RAM.
  • Apply structural engineering knowledge to validate tools against design codes (e.g., ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Manual, NDS).
  • Provide team and engineer support (virtual and on-site) by troubleshooting and assisting with technology issues.
  • Document processes and workflows to support knowledge sharing and consistency.
  • Maintain an innovation log to track ideas, issues, and improvements during projects.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to contribute fresh ideas for innovation projects.
  • Monitor industry trends and new technologies to stay updated on relevant advancements.
  • Assist in data collection and reporting for project KPIs, supporting team objectives.
  • Attend and participate in regional and national seminars to expand industry knowledge and understanding of innovative practices.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Structural or Civil Engineering required.
  • Master of Science (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • No experience required; prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Strong curiosity and eagerness to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Basic organizational skills, with attention to detail for documentation tasks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of technology, agile mindset, and innovation principles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage timelines for deliverables.
  • Familiarity with basic project management tools or software is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Familiarity with structural codes (ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Manual, NDS) preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.

Salary Range $75,000 - $78,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
